I realised last night that I had missed browndog's 500th post as he hid it away from the latest threads box.

How about posting your mileposts here? Whether it be the anniversary of the day you joined AHB, your 100th post, 500th post or whatever. If it's important to you, why not write or link it here so we can have a read?

With the diverse range of members here, I reckon we'll see some brilliant posts - either funny, informative, the most important things people have learned or even just interesting observations on AHB changes over time.

I can't remember my 500th or 1000th post but I do remember my 1500th one. I noticed it was two posts away the other day and thought, "Now where can I put that?".... Trough Lolly, my birthday present to you was my 1500th post in the Birthday Drinks thread and I'm very happy that it resides there with you :super:

So, if you can link your prior mileposts or have one coming up, please write or link it here.

Thanks,
Pat

P.S. We all know what will happen if I start writing congratulations to everyone that posts here so I'm only going to do one. Congratulations browndog. I miss ya mate and let's make sure that the only place that Baaarbraaa ever comes between us is in your avatar ;)

this was my 2000th post:

http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...st&p=189623

wait, that's in base 6, which is only 432 in decimal, please ignore.

Am I the only one that find milestones based our 10 digit number system a little curious? What if we all had 11 fingers? Would we still celebrate multiples of 100? or would it be 121?

Sorry PP, it's Fridey

Pat, its not about number of post but the quality, otherwise we'd all be drinkin vb !!

hope your having a relaxing and quality liquid fri night :)

PP,
1500 in just over a year

You will overtake Doc before he knows it

cheers

Darren

I'm with you there, Goatherder. Like the huge deal about the Millennium. It's not even that people started counting from that time, the whole thing was invented till 500 years after it was supposed to have started and wasn't in common use till long after that.

But not trying to rain on your parade, PP. I'm near my 2,000 post as you know ;) and surely some of your posts count double so I reckon you're past me already.

PS, Doc, do we get a gold watch on our 10,000th post?

Damn you and your Hexicdecimal tallies! :p I need a binary sun to check my refractometer without need to covert Brix readings...

But I digress...

I remember my 16th post... And I thought it were 'ard slog. I looked up to the greats I met on the QLD Xmas in July 06 thread. Batz, Ross, PP, Screwtop, Bindi. Ahh.. the Halcyon days!

And it's Browndogs 666th post as I speak!

And I've just done one year, and I am the louse in frivalous! :D

Here you go Pat, probably not as informative or exciting as you were looking for but this is post 1500 for me, actually it's pretty sad really

Nursing a 14 stubbie hangover and a 3.00 am finish to the night, I managed to drag my sorry self out of bed this morning for a double brew day. Mashed in at 8.00 and cleaned up by 12.30, 2 x Australian Ales in the fermenters and I am now feeling slightly better.

Cheers
Andrew

Got my 1000th during the week but must say that this is a bit of a "drivel" post Pat.
You are destined for bigger & better things on AHB (Maybe?). :)

THIS is number 100!!

Campbell
neither witty nor incisive

Campell, you're a chatterbox! :D

I have on my "Greenock Morton FC LTD" beanie. they're pants at soccer, but I swapped it with a scottish lass for a ... Carlton Cold beanie! and a root an act of diplomacy.

LOL! I'm heading out for dinner but I should have said the thread isn't about numbers. Personally I'd love hearing about a guy's first year anniversary or 100th post just as much as I'd really like to see a post here from someone who's been on the forum for years but hasn't posted much.

In other words Pete, I expect something great from you ;)

Anyway, so far it's at least good Friday night entertainment!

Spot ya later guys,
Pat

Moderator? Yep. It's going to happen. I heard them whisperings myself Pete. It's been some time coming.

I've been on here for 3 1/2 yrs and only racked up a couple of hundred posts. I have read heaps and learnt a great deal, but only contribute when I have something worthwhile to say...

It's never been my strongpoint... :p

Then they dicked around with it again in the 16th century. A quote from a friend of mine on the millennium: "A marvellous celebration of mediocrity"

Well obviously a lot of the above is not quite what I had in mind - lol but good on ya!

For example, already some of the guys that have posted here could write some really interesting (or amusing) experiences about their time brewing and on AHB but I started the thread on a Friday night so there you go!

Most of these guys that have posted here so far have been around for a while and I hope they'll humour me by thinking seriously about posting here the next time some sort of milestone comes along. I hate seeing wasted knowledge, experience or humour.

I also love seeing the enthusiasm that new guys bring here. There have been a lot of great new guys join in the last year full of life and this, to me, is something again of huge value.

So we have new guys and old guys and heaps in between. I'm one of the in-between guys and definitely one of the weird ones  Way too many posts - heaps too long. Too many ideas - several wrong. Too much passion - rarely bridled.

So while I would have said something completely different on my other milestone posts, here's what I'd be focussed on now if it were ten posts ago (my 1500th post) and I had had an opportunity to post here.

Because I spend a lot of time on AHB, my post would be about AHB and how to deal with the increasingly diverse range of members.

I'd write something about things here getting bigger day by day and how this can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how it is dealt with.

For the older members here, seeing their posts diluted by people they don't know and at a level now below theirs must be frustrating. How can we avoid this?

For the new people coming in, how can we make the knowledge here less over-whelming? How can we give them a warmer welcome?

How can AHB form cohesive groups and keep a strong bond between them as they progress?

How can AHB structure itself so all levels can commune in the right places and in a way beneficial for all?

If this were my 1500th post, these would be the things I would write on.

I'd also probably write some suggestions that might help, in a small way, to answer some of the above questions. (Some things, such as the Wiki, are already happening and helping to answer the above questions.)

I'd suggest that new members upon registering, be sent a welcome email asking them to read the FAQ links that POL spent so much time on. This would save a lot of repetitive questions.

I might also suggest having a volunteer system where people could do things like respond by PM or otherwise to those who post in the Introduce Yourself thread. Or maybe take on and 'nurse' new members in their early brewing or forum days. POL and a few others took me on and I've hardly cost AHB any band-width - lol!

Previously, this sort of stuff just naturally happened. I'm not too sure what happens with the new guys now or how the older guys feel. Does anyone? That's another reason why I thought this thread might be interesting.

While some will laugh at the above suggestions or find them unnecessary, the reality is that this forum is growing quite rapidly.

So, I'd probably write something like the above for my 1500th post and hope that it got one or two people starting some other threads to help ensure that AHB thrives.

But then again, I could just as easily have written all about how exciting today was brewing-wise. Thanks to Thirsty Boy and Batz, I think I may have learned a brilliant brewing lesson. It'll be a few more days before I know for sure but, as you well know, I'll be sure to pass it on - briefly.

;)
Pat

Edit: Well someone had to write a high risk post - lol.

Diabolus no mihi operor is

Devil may give you a lot of land to work with?

Sorry my latin is as poor as my hb AT WORST OF TIMES.

I wish I wasn't called mash maestro for a couple of hundred posts.
For gods sake I have only done a dozen thus far.
I read a lot, research a lot more and tend to know more about brewing theoretically then actual practice.
I'd say from memory i have brew about 10 K+K and lost count on extract brews and as I said a dozen partials. though the partial are started with acouple of kilo grain and now has about 4-5 kilo of grain.
Only troube is my stock pot only takes 19 litres

Only recently converted my esky to ag and about to do a lager full mash very soon.
18 month behind my personal schedule, **** happens.

This must be the thred you mentioned we "Needed" on the phone ..LOL

I dont realy look at the post count, and have no idea when the milestones come up ..

I do remember one SA member who went mad for a fair while trying to get his post count up .. No names ay peas and corn.

Oh well another frivolus post. LOL

Cheers
