4.5% Or 5.7 % What Do You Prefer

i'm having the same problem DJR getting a much higher gravity than what i should be, i assume 72% but have not yet worked out my actuall efficiency which is obviously alot higher. but same as you, have not noticed any bad flavour at all, just great tasting beer that gets me inebriated quicker

I usually make mine 4.4% and 5.6%.

I used to do that (brew higher OG than I wanted).

Then I got a refractometer.

A quick check before adding the flavour hops at about 15 minutes, and extend boil or dilute.

For my lighter bodied beers APA's ect I like around 4.5-5% while for my Darker beers I prefer 5.5-7% anything above 7% for a beer to me would be ridiculous as I'd be pissed after 3-4.
