APA - Matching colour for the style

Hi All, I am trying to work out how to determine where the colour of my brew sits. The recipe I used (not sure if it was off here) has it styled as an ‘American Pale Ale’. I used the brewbuilder program from my local HB store and it says that the colour should be 23, but when I put the same...

    Biab Beer Designer Spreadsheet

I am using Beersmith 2, and I find it ok for transferring recipoies from brewbuilder on the HB store I use. I don't think I fully use BS2 to its full extent as I don't really give a toss about percentage efficiency and water loss and every other factor than can be recorded. I do BIAB and so I...

No Chill - Process and questions

This is the first time I have attempted the ‘no chill’ process and from my readings of this topic on here, this is what I have done and will do, I am looking for confirmation/ advice: 1. Brewed as per normal and while still hot just after flame out transferred from boil vessel into a sanitised...

    Lime in beer

I know it works. My neighbour made a mexican can kit and kilo job with the juice of 6 limes in the secondary and kegged it. Pretty sweet, but not too bad. I am planning to do the same thing but tweak it a bit. Primary ferment kit and kilo coopers mexican (yes it's a can, but this is a trial...

    URGENT! CO2 Cylinder Problem

I cannot turn my gas cylinder on or off. It goes a quarter turn only. The reg says the cylinder is still pretty full, and if I open up the valve on the reg, it will just fill the kegs. I have tried to loosen the nut, and when I do so all the CO2 escapes from the cylinder. Should I loosen nut...

    Cleaning Taps

I need to clean the part indicated in the photo. It is the screw where the tap joins. There is beer in it and I cannot get a rag in there to clean it out. Taking the font off the fridge is not an option. Thoughts/ Suggestions?

    Co2 Gas Question

I know that my cylinder weighs 2.6kg empty. It currently weighs 3.0kg.. therefore 400g of CO2. Question is, will this be enough to push two kegs for the next week with fairly constant use. My thoughts are no and that I should err on the side of caution and get it filled up. Thoughts?

    Slow Or Forced Carbing

Been a while since this topic was bought up for discussion. I dont need the beer till xmas - but it has been in the fridge for about 3 weeks at 3.5/4 deg C..... Force carbing (The method psted on here) has worked well in the past, but that is because I was impatient. At present I am on a diet...

Mini Brews - Scaling Down For Experimentation

I am currently doing BIAB at 23L knockout. I want to experiment with brews. My first option is to make 23L and split it between x amount of vessels for fermentation with different yeasts and dry hopping profiles etc and then bottle. In this option how much yeast should I use for a smaller...

    Dry Hopping

Hi All, I have found that when I dry hop into my racked beer (for me 'racking' means taking it from primary fermentation vessel with the yeast cake, into another vessel where it will sit for a week or two then it goes into the keg to chill to 4 deg before force carbing) the armoa does not last...

    Dry Hopping And Bulk Priming

Bugger. I just added the sugar. Not in a position to bottle till the end of the week. Oh well. I might just add about 1/2 of what I added today (130g today) and she should be ok.

    Dry Hopping And Bulk Priming

Thanbks Robbo thats what I was thinking. The hops are bagged so no problem with them breaking up and getting into the bottles. I might just add the sugar now and stir and then wait a few days and add the hops. Its been a while since I had to bottle Cheers,

    Dry Hopping And Bulk Priming

I just racked out an AG GOlden Ale clone that I intend to bottle. I forgot to add my sugar to bulk prime, will it be ok to rack it again into another fermenter a few hours before bottling next weekend with the sugar? Secondly, I have need ot dry hop it for armoa, should I do this now or once...

    Water Calculator

Thanks to all. I actauly have Brewsmith 2 on my computer but I have not really sat down and played around with it. I worked out that i needed at 28.5L for 4kg grain for a mild ale. Meh, it is mashing now and the liquid is darkish, so something right must be happening.

    Water Calculator

I am currently doing BIAB in a 40L Birko Urn. I have been guessing the amount of water to use thus far and have always managed to get it pretty good. So good that my OG has always been within 2 of the desired. Is there a calcualtor out there that will enable me to accuratly determine the...
