Correct Wood To Use For A Mash Paddle

It needs to be either wood or plastic. My pot is aluminium and stainless will tear it apart. How about kwila? I was thinking of something like beech, it's rumoured to have some anti-bacterial properties, hence butcher blocks being made of it.

    Modifying A Fridge/freezer Combo...

Can't really give you any information as I'm kinda in the same position as you. I was hoping that the fridge would keep beers at fermenting temps and the freezer might be suitable for lagering.

    B I A B Step Mash

Has anyone here done a step mash using BIAB? I had a chat with another prospective BIABer and he mentioned that he was interested in brewing lagers. I've watched a few youtube clips on the theory behind step and decoction mashes and I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be possible to...

    My New Zealand Trip

The old Twisted Hop's my "local". They've recently replaced the oatmeal stout (the winter seasonal) with a pretty decent IIPA by the name of "Skull Buggery". Any who passes through Chch MUST go there and get into the beers there.

    Hops In Primary

Nope, I took the grains out before I boiled but I think the mesh on my grain bag is a bit loose. Might have some tannins but not much I can do about that. Do you have any opinion on the hops and stuff in the fermenter? Should they be removed?

    Hops In Primary

Hey all, I put down my first partial brew today and I'm super paranoid that I've messed something up. I'd be grteful for someone to have a look through my steps and see if I've made any major mistakes. Steeped 1kg crystal at 68C for 30 minutes. Made the mash up to 22 litres and added 1.5kg...

    Brewing-related New-year's Resolutions

    1. Stop trying to run before I can walk 2. Organise the garage to make brewing easy 3. Concentrate on process. I want to pick one style of beer and make it consistently before I move on.
