    Used grain

I save a few takeaway containers full and freeze them, throw one in for the chooks from time to time, especially on really hot days. They get all excited just like brew day when they get a big pile dumped in for them. Usually leave it for a day or so ( they spread it around pretty well so it...

Can you brew a decent cider from cheap reconstituted shop bought juice

I have fermented a bottle of apple blackcurrant juice. Came out fairly tart but nice with a decent back sweetening. My last cider was 6x 3l juice (18l- coincidence?) with 1 bottle being apple black currant. Gives a nice depth of flavour, no discernable change of colour and only very faint berry...

    Sheep/cow's whey vodka

'42° Below' vodka is made by fonterra ( NZ dairy company ) but they probably won't tell you anything about methods either. My guess is probably an enzyme to break up the molecules to something that yeast can access.

How to heat a steam kettle?

Can you set up the pot with gas or elements? Its still ( presumably ) a decent sized vessel...

Wheat beer (hefeweizen) tastes a bit thin?

I've used porridge in wheat beers a few times, 50 to 100g cooked and added at low 60s ( doing step mash ) gives a good body and a nice thick creamy head.

    extracts/kits always too sweet tasting

Maybe try adding a dry enzyme to help the yeast break up the long chain sugars?

    Show Us Your Mash Paddle

Got my brother to weld it up then pickled it with phosphoric and citric acid slurry. Came up alright, now cant wait to use it in anger. Plan is to be able to use it in the drill when ramping temps. ( Gas biab setup...) Stoked! ed. Mashing 16kg in 90l pot so not too much overkill ha ha.

    Filling bottles from kegs

I connect the gas to the cap and loosen the cap to purge air out, then pressurize the bottle to the same as keg pressure. Stops it foaming up when you start filling from the keg.

    Inspecting grains prior to milling?

Try doing a coarse crush first then run it through on a finer setting, or look at conditioning the grain with a small amount of water( search 'conditioning grain' for some info). Both of these methods have worked for me in the past when the grain won't feed through the mill. Its bloody...

    Cleaning a keg jumper line?

Or just store the line in the fridge ( cos you'll probably be using it again soon...) and flush/clean when you do the keg.

Unwaxed dental floss - where to buy?

I use a length of 0.9mm stainless steel mig wire with a loop twisted in each end, ss tea ball on bottom. Just make the wire slightly longer than the keg height and it will kind of spring into the side of the keg so nothing effects the seal and it stays upright so you can always get it out if...

Beer Fridge Tap with 'safety' lock

Bit of a pita but you could just remove the disconnect and release the line pressure between sessions. I'm in a similar position, got a keggerator but can't figure out where to put it to keep the 2 & 3 year olds out of it.

    Festival of sacrifice.

Staying ot but for quick and humane fish dispatching, search for " iki-jime " it's the best. Shuts down the central nervous system and makes a huge difference in the fish quality. And in a pinch you can use a Phillips screwdriver.
