    Plastic Sugar Measures

I thought that what the problem may be, perhaps more dextrose is needed for the same level of carbonation. But I thought 8 days would be plenty, its only a level of dextrose. Beer tastes good, not a hint of sweetness. But just bloody flat. Ill give it another week or 2.

    Plastic Sugar Measures

Gday all. I purchased 1 of those cheap plastic sugar measures from CB a few weeks ago hoping that using correctly measured dextrose would possibly slightly improve my beers as opposed to those shitty coopers carb drops. I have sinced carbed about 60 bottles over 2 separate brews using the...

Fwk - Amarillo Pale Ale Review - (nd Brewing)

Gday guys. 2 weeks ago to the day I knocked up my first FWK I bought from Daves Homebrew in North Syd. Some of you probably have already tried the FW kits made by ND Brewing, but I hadnt seen any reviews on the Amarillo Pale Ale batch, so Im writing this quick one up for those who are looking...

Chilli Beer - Recipe Ideas Sought

My dad made a chilli porter, which easily has been his best brew yet, incredible to be honest. I know he boiled the chillies for a while but didnt dump them in the tub, just the water. Really did give it a noticable kick and flavour, without being ridiculous. I will find out the exact recipe...

    Iphone Apps For Brewers

Brew Pal. Purely genius. Everything you need to brew a beer is in it, and stupidly easy to use.

    Fermenter Prep

Manticle is the man. Everything he said definately. Clean first, sanitise last. Roosiecharm just as a matter of interest, if you have iodophor, how much did you pay for your batch and was it difficult to find? Been looking for this stuff for a while, LHB stores I have been to just dont stock it.

    Fermenter Prep

Did you physically wash it out with a sponge and toothbrush all threads and clean the surface? If so, yeah just use a no-rinse before you put the wort in. I use phosporic acid - 10%.

    New Brew

Gday all. I just last last night brewed my last batch before I moved into my new place on Saturday. Aiming for a darker IPA. Ingredients: Morgans Caramalt Amber Liquid 1.5kg 500g Light Dry Malt 150g Crystal Grain (20 min steep at constant 60 deg.) 15g Northern Brewer 9.8% @ 60 min 20g Kent...

    Bottle Bomb Risk?

Thank you for the responses gents. If all goes well this will easily be my best brew so far. Cant believe how much punch the Amarillo is giving now, as opposed to the samples @ 10 days. Now comes the painful 4 week wait :(

    Bottle Bomb Risk?

Hi guys. Just fininshed bottling my brew tonight. Several of the bottle I think may have been overfilled. Bottles in question are between 650mL-750mL using 2 coopers carb drops. Some of them were filled to within 1 inch of the caps, so is this likely to pose a risk of explosion? Also, due to a...

    First Time Finings

Thanks for that booya. Im heading down the shops now I might see what they have. No use buying individual packets from the LHB everytime I start a brew.

    First Time Finings

Hi guys thanks for the responses. Wolfy, I read how to gelatin several times over and over so I didnt need to ask anything. But I never found anything relating to gelatin smells. It literally smelt like funky cheese or a yeast infection when I put the finings in the jug, but when it was...

    First Time Finings

I just checked the finings. Completely dissolved and that cheesy smell has subsided a fair bit. Im assuming this is probably normal for gelatin. F*ck it ill think ill just dump it in.

    First Time Finings

Wolfy. LHB told me it is Gelatin finings. And is currently dissolving in medium to hot water. Planning on using within the next 10 mins Need to know if this smell is normal or to throw it out....

    First Time Finings

Hi all. I am just preparing my finings for the first time. I noticed after i poured the finings into the warm water that it absolutely stinks. Like smelly cheese almost. Is this normal? Im not sure if I can bring myself to pour this rank smelling shit in my brew?

    Reducing Bitterness

Id be pretty disappointed if it was an infection. Im extremely cautious when I brew. When it comes to sanitation I probably go overboard. I guess Ill have to wait and see in a couple of weeks. Im dropping the finings in tonight and will bottle in a few days.

    Crown V Swing Top Bottles

Swing tops are fantastic bottles. Makes bottling a damn sight easier thats for sure. Also the glass is quite thick which is only a good thing. The bottles are a little pricey, but imo a worthwhile investment. Having said that, I still dont mind capping. I have a bench capper so a few extra...

    Reducing Bitterness

Hi all thanks for the responses. It is now day 14 of fermentation and after another test sample I must say it has mellowed out quite a bit more. I think the extra week in the fermenter does it the world of good. Always made the mistake of bottling as soon as FG was reached, and the brew always...
