Bit of a cleanout when the shed is overdue and you can't figure out how you ever fit so much stuff in there in the first place. Junk spreads to space available.
I'm based in Frankston for pickup - yeah, free.
I might have tried out one of the four boxes of beer glass paddles my daughter bought...
No-one on ebay is looking - so maybe more interest here.
Four Beer Paddles for home brewing (3xCrofton & 1xMaverick). 4 glasses on each paddle. Condition is Brand New. Local pickup only.
These were a gift, but I don't really do samples. So brand new, ready to go - but probably about 4 years...
My post mash gravity was 1.044 on my refractometer - just ahead of the expected 1.041.
Next day I poured the wort from the cube onto the yeast cake of the previous beer, and didn't take test the OG until I'd done that - because I assumed perhaps some sugars may have settled in the cube. But...
Not sure how to calculate SG for pear juice from nutrition information.
When I made the cider on sat, I measured the SG using my refractometer and it seemed ridiculously low - 1.017. I tried some store bought apple juice with my refractometer and it was 1.040. I realised later - duh - I hadn't...
Searching out ciders (apple, pear) for someone who is lactose intolerant.
1. Any brands that feature lactose free sweetening?
2. Does anyone brew a cider without lactose? I find most artificial sweeteners quite medicine-like. Be interested in a recipe that overcomes that. Haven't done a cider...
There's probably something really wrong with this idea, but it would be helpful to understand what it is.
Haven't been able to brew for 9 months and have a wyeast 1272 american ale yeast that I've had for that long. Popped the bag yesterday and it has swelled, but not fully. Grain and grape is...
Getting rid of an old Kelvinator 380l cyclic defrost - not pretty but just keeps going. Keeps beer cold, freezer compartment works. I use a tempmate for control, which works well.
Bought a new kitchen fridge, so the old kitchen fridge is going to replace the kelvinator in my shed.
I haven't...
Realised i forgot to order 68g of wheat for a big IPA recipe. What happens if I use something like weetbix? It's BIAB so I'm not worried about sparges - although it could be messy. But I don't really understand whether it's in a form that can be converted or I'm just going to cloud things. It's...
My wife needs room in the garden and i'm planning on different hops next year, so these are free to a good home. Have both been great producers and may be ready to divide - not sure.
Pick up only. Give me some notice because they're still in the ground as I write this.
Have a friend in Zambia and he's interested in brewing, and so has set himself up for Biab. With a few local challenge dilemmas.
He bought a24 litre pot for$150 (welcome to Zambia). The only alternative is to get a150 litre pot. (As I said, welcome to Zambia). He wants to do 19litre batches or...
We need the space so I only want one hop, and so looking to swap all three for a single hop rhizome - an APA aroma hop.
I have Saaz, Kent Goldings and Cluster rhizomes - been in the ground 3 yrs and big producers so you may be able to split the rhizomes further - haven't dug 'em up yet so...
Did a batch on Saturday - but had not brewed since January - I've travelled that much with work...
It meant I had an old 1272 American Ale II date 9 Sep 2012, and only pitched it yesterday - sunday. The pack was already swollen, so I didn't bother bursting the pouch, but wonder about the...
About to a couple of american IPAs. I'm thinking that I want higher body with some residual sweetness to balance the IBUs, so was planning on high mash temperatures.
Just interested in others' experiences with american IPAs.
I'm doing a LCPA, then I'll use the yeast cake for a Bell's Two...
I've had pale ales, IPAs and even IPAs with delightful bitterness.
Then occasionally I taste a pale or IPA that is just... harsh. It's like... ear wax or old-fashioned floor polish or something. Unpleasant. This thread depends on people guessing what I mean.
I don't have a trained palate...
Just harvested my hops (saaz, kent goldings & cluster)... but for next year thinking of replacing them all with one, maybe two hops for APAs /American IPAs - a space thing really. I was originally thinking Cascade, but began to wonder if there's a hop I'm not familiar with that might be another...
Off to the land of the long white cloud in a couple of weeks, staying in Russell on the Bay of Islands.
Any recommendations for breweries or venues with interesting ales?
About to bottle a hefeweizen, which should be 3.3 to 4.5. I'd like to push the carbonation to the high side, and wondered if bottle carbing creates greater risk of gushers?
Is there a maximum vol for bottle conditioning? I realise i've never gone as high as 3.3.
