    What are these

Take them up to Martin at National Home Brew on the roundabout when you come into town from Scaryborough. He'll sort you out.

Do you have a beard? (poll)

I've had a beard for most of the last 50 years. Currently sporting a full growth that's 12 months old. Haven't been without a moustache since I first grew it in 74.

Do you have a beard? (poll)

I thought someone like Greta Garbo or Mae West said that. Thanks for enlightening me.

    Ditch my fermenter

If you're going to siphon, make sure you buy food grade plastic tubing. Hb shop is my best bet.

    Ditch my fermenter

I have 9 fermenters and cycle through them. I put a new tap in each time( I know, blows my environmental position, but I'm pretty good otherwise) they are $1.98 at bunnings. I tried all sorts of ways, some very inventive, involving screw clamps and hose fittings, of cleaning them but in the end...

    Fermenting temperature

Gooday Goodbeer. I have been brewing successfully with kits for quite a while now (years) and can pass on the following. As stated temp control is key. Having said that I have found that a couple of degrees variation + or - is no big deal, as long as you are generally at the lower end of...

    Larger without a fridge?

What I did was take off all the plastic mouldings that hold the shelves and same with the doors. I took out the divider between fridge and freezer. I then lined the inside with hardy board and sealed it all up with sikkaflex. With the doors I pushed them together and the pop riveted some ally...

    Larger without a fridge?

I got a large side by side fridge/freezer from the tip and gutted it out lined it and lay it on its back. It holds 8 x 30l fermenters. Temp varies very slowly and I maintain it with bottles of frozen water. Also by using partitions I can have lagers @12/14 degrees at one end and other styles...

    Red Ned

Gooday all. I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct forum so mods please feel free to relocate if you wish. Quite a few years back my wife and I were visiting our son who was based in Townsville. We went to the small brewery in the middle of town. There we had a tasting session and the...

    Learning about partials.

Great info and thanks to all for the input. I am going to be buying off Craft Brewer in the future and also hope to make a trip down that way soon to look at the store and meet the folks. Thanks again for all the great information/advice.

too risky to put down a brew

I hear your pain mate. I live 3 hours north of Brisbane and I can't be waiting for the weather to change. If you have space do this. I can fit 6 fermenters in this baby and hold temps at where ever I want with the aid of a remote thermometer sender and frozen bottles of water.

    Learning about partials.

Thanks so much for all this info. I have done 2 lagers and a cerveza using light grains and 1 amber ale using the crystal grains. Only the 2 lagers have been consumed at this point and as I said I like the difference they make. Given my description above, am I heading in the right direction as...

    Learning about partials.

Thanks for the replies. Manticle, could you pad that out a bit for me. What I am doing is adding the liquid from the half kg of grains after steeping at 70* for half an hour, to a Kit with a kg of DME as well. The brews are really different, in a most pleasant way. I am also adding a sachet of...

    Learning about partials.

Gooday all. I am taking baby steps towards partial mash brews. At the moment I am buying half kilo bags of cracked grain from my brew shop. Expensive if nothing else at $6.50 for .5kg. The label on the bag says cracked grain but when I look at it I can see quite a lot of intact grains. That...

Dry hopping with tea-bag style hops. Should it sink?

I saw in a thread above this that putting a tea bag of hops in at the end of fermentation may have caused an infection.

Look up "forced carbonation". There is a wealth of opinion around this topic. All the best.
