Almost all the kits I've made and/or tasted have the same underlying flavour (IMHO), unless you use a shit load of dry hops to mask it. Faced with a choice between kits and extract, I'd go the extract route every time. Some LHBS have some good 'extract' kits, where they bundle some grain...

An upright freezer would be great if you can find one. I never managed to find one that I wouldn't have to modify for shelves, and as I mentioned, I'm a very lazy man. Mine is an all fridge, so getting the fermenter in and out is dead easy - just bear hug it. Even an upside down fridge/freezer...

I wouldn't expect there to be, unless you had one of those old school combo's where the freezer was contained within the main body of the fridge. Even then, your fermenter would be sealed so it should be ok. Might be a pain to clean though.

An all fridge is great but a chest freezer is more efficient. I guess it depends on your budget, and what's important to you. I got a 370 all fridge from ebay because it was cheap and I couldn't be bothered lifting a full fermenter out of a bar fridge. As an added bonus, I can now ferment 2...

+1. I just did a brand new pot a coupple of weeks back with one of these. No lube nessecary. When drilling the pilot hole, put a couple of spots of masking tape over the spot you want to drill, just to make sure the bit doesn't slip all over the place.

I just had a crack at one of these the other day. To my understanding, they use galaxy, summer saaz, and a bit of northern brewer for the grassy finish. I used 3.5kg of Pilsner, 1.5kg of Vienna, and 500g of carapils, but having read the bottle after I'd started it looks like they use pale malt...

I love beer inspired solutions to problems that never should have existed to begin with . Sure, he could have fit it with a crank or even a cordless drill, but why do that when you can harness the potential of uninsulated mains power? :icon_drunk:

I have wire shelves in my fermenting fridge - it seems to cope quite well when I put 2 shelves in one below the other. Doesn't seem nearly as flimsy as having just one. Just a thought, if it saves you having to make a new set of shelves. Hope the beer turns out well for you! :icon_cheers:

Sorry to hear about the job thing, but I think the most important question here is did your question about finings get answered?! If the people you're working with are that petty, you don't want them to get in the way of my making a high quality comercially clear beer!

Big W in Miranda have a decent range of stuff. I did go to a K mart at southpoint yesterday who had a very limited supply of coopers cans, starter kits, and PET bottles. By the sounds of it, they won't be there for long.

I'm not 100% on that - I use a hop sock, so I don't get much debris into the cube.
