Weyermann Floor Malted Pilsner - No Conversion

A couple of thoughts, following on from 4* do you mean after an hour you test the SG of the wort an it is still 1.000 or close to? No conversion? I am still not a full bottle on pH but 4.9 to 5.4 you should still see a good conversion, maybe not the best but it should still yeild quite well.

    Quick Spanner Question

Or 22.2mm Probably find both posts are the same size with the 22mm being a slightly tighter fit over the 7/8.

Building Boiler, Element & Thermocouple Locations

Boiler as in kettle or a Hot Water Tank? I can't see a kettle needing a thermocouple. Hot water tank, I would put the thermocouple as low as possible because with mine the water below the element is cooler than the water above and I need to stir it a few times to make sure I have a constant...

    Beer For Swmbo

This isn't a dark or heavy beer but even lady friends that don't drink beer will have a glass or 2 of it. Very refreshing. I have changed it a bit since putting it in the Recipe DB using Galaxy instead of NS and leaving out the Passionfruit in secondary. Still has a Passionfruit hit from the...

Drinking tonight, lets see, I only drink on days ending in "Y" so being that it is Sunday I am in luck. ;)

    First Wit

Don't expect alot of yield from the raw wheat. I set the potential yield of my raw wheat to 1.025, same as roasted wheat, and dropped the mash efficiency a few points. My SG was spot on what I had planned for. Andrew

Which Dry Yeasts Do You Keep On Hand?

Other than the old stayers US-05 and S-189, try 34/70 and Windsor. I am only just getting into liquid yeast so 34/70 has been my Lager yeast for the past few years. I have used Windsor a few times in my Stout with good results. Andrew

    Making A Malt Extract

I used to do K&K with water straight from the tap and never had infections, so my opinion is that tap water should be sterile enough to add at that stage. Personally I like brew days and have free time to do them so I would never do this but it is a great concept for people who are short of...

    Dunkelweizen Ideas

Thanks Tim. I forgot about that section in my book. I'm now thinking of trying 180'C for 20 mins and see what comes out. John recomends a 2 week rest for all home toasted malts so I will have to put my brew date back a week. Drew

    Dunkelweizen Ideas

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would tack another question onto an old one. My last Dunkelweizen wasn't bad but I'm going in for round 2. Could I turn normal wheat malt into dark wheat by baking it in the oven? If so what temp and for how long would be recommended? I would be aiming...

    Australian Cerveza

Assuming both kits are 1.7Kg and the Brewcraft #10 is 60/40 dex and LDME with a final volume of 25L you are going to get around 7% Alc. If you only went to 23L it will end up around 7.5% Alc. Hold onto your hat when you get around to having a couple. Next time I would drop the sugar kit and...

    Help With A Hopper

HAHA Only Jokes. I added a plastic front to mine like many others. Will have to add a slide as talked about above as my cordless goes flat about 5Kg into a 7Kg grain bill. Drew
