Hops On The Inside Of My Kettle

Has anyone thought of making a suspended wire box-type frame covered with this polyester netting stuff, rather than having the hop-condoms free floating about? The top would be open and above the water line for hop additions, and it could go down a fair way into the wort. Not sure if I've...

    Air Pump For Aeration Stone

A disintegrating el-cheapo airstone (just one of those blue 2 inch jobbies) is why I want a SS one. My last one only lasted less than 10 brews. I'd clean it after every job. Before sticking it in my wort I'd always soak it in phosphoric acid or neo-pink or napisan (whichever one took my fancy...

    Refractometer Advice Please

You should be able to recalibrate it. The instructions that came with it should tell you how. Distilled water should read 0, if it doesn't then simply adjust the little thingy (techo terminology!) until it does.

    S/s Braid?

There was a time when I couldn't see the forest for the trees either. I'd researched lots of things but couldn't sort it all out. Anyway, I got a metre long stainless steel braid reinforced hot water hose from Bunnings. Cut the ends off and pulled out the rubber inner hose. Bugger of a job...

    Fridge Pattern...

I like the fourth one. The one you said was too hard. It would look awesome with a tap coming out of the middle of it. If you made a template for one of those squiggle lines then it would be fairly easy, as all you'd then have to do is spray and rotate.

    Air Pump For Aeration Stone

Slightly off topic... I've found an aquarium place in Browns Plains, QLD that sells stainless air stones for $10 http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/category10_1.htm Pity that postage is $7.50 though otherwise I'd get myself one. Looks like they've got some nice little air pumps too Doc.

    Bar /brewery Signs

Hey Batz, can you post a few more pics of your bar please? I love the bar top! I want to do something like that eventually, and I'm looking to nick some ideas off your setup if you don't mind.

    Saflager Yeast Starter

When I make a starter for my wyeasts I make up 2 litres of starter wort at a rate of about 100g of light dried malt to 1 litre of water and boil for about 15min. When it's cooled I pitch the yeast and let it sit overnight on the stir plate. When I use dried yeast, I just proof it by soaking...

I've just got a post-it note on the garage door... :(

Barcode On Coopers Six Pack Packaging

I guess that's why I like brewing so much... I caters for all tastes. Just when I think I've found the most god-awful beer out there, someone will say, "Hey, I like this!". On my last trip to Darwin a mate searched all over town far a case of Emu of all things. To him, nectar of the gods. To...

    Receipe Database

I've been waiting for the Recipes section as well. But considering the fact that none of use has to pay to use this great resource (good thing too as I'm way too much of a tight-@ss to want to pay  ), I'm content to wait. Great work to all those who keep AHB running!

Barcode On Coopers Six Pack Packaging

Practically every brew lover around the world knows that you are supposed to pour the beer gently off the yeast in bottle conditioned beers. But, some people (mainly south aussies... strange bunch of people <_< ... Just moved from there recently. TIC. Hi Ken!) actually like the taste of the...

    No-rinse Sanitiser I Bought

Anyone know if we can get this Hy-san stuff in the Newcastle area? Otherwise what are it's active ingredients and are there any comparable alternates?

    National Comp & Powels Malts

Has anyone bothered to check if the conversion is complete? I haven't used Powells malt yet, but if I was getting unexpectedly low efficiencies I'd do the good ol' iodine conversion test to see what's going on.

    Who Can Detect Dms?

I like the taste of creamed corn... And I've enjoyed a Miller on occasion... I think I know the flavour your talking about. I don't really find it a bad flavour. Having said that, I don't think I'd like it in my ales, and when I try and make pilsners I don't want it there either. I...

Users Of The "no Chiller Method"

 That'd look a bit odd wouldn't it? Wearing nothing but a condom while brewing... Hmmm... I can just imagine fiddling with my hot wort wearing nothing but a dinger... Kinky. B)

    Water Volume For Ag

G'day Goatherder, I use a 30L electric urn for a HLT, and I find I have to top it up a bit during the mash (it's got about 5L of deadspace below the tap). But alot of guys use 20L urns for their HLT and don't seem to have any dramas. The hour long mash should be plenty of time to heat your...

    The "no Chiller" Method

I don't know about everyone else, but the discussion in this thread has prompted me to actually do a bit of research (rather than make wowser or emotive arguments) on the internet regarding the facts of DMS production. If you haven't already read my other link on DMS production in beer, here it...

    Fire Extinguisher Co2 Bottle

Anyone know of a good fire extinguisher place in the Newcastle area that I can take my 3.5kg to?

Users Of The "no Chiller Method"

The main drawcard for me is the ability to step up the starter with the same wort it is going into, while the bulk of it cools down to pitching temp.
