    Choc Hazelnut Porter Fg

Waited a wee while for bottles to carbonate - did not want to waste any after all. FG is 1.026 - should be 1.019. Tastes great though!

    Plastic Airstone

Spotted a plastic airstone in the local pet shop. Better idea than using a standard airstone or is the stainless version from CB the way to go?

    Choc Hazelnut Porter Fg

1 week in PET now. How can one stuff up the reading? Tasting it at the time it did taste grainy from suspended choc from bottom of fermenter - not related to false reading is it?

    Choc Hazelnut Porter Fg

Just bottled one of these following the "Brewing Classic Styles" recipe. Did not measure OG (I know I know) but according to recipe was supposed to be 1,066. Kept it in the fermenter for 3 weeks, in brew fridge at 18C. Airlock activity stopped after two weeks. Measured the FG prior to bottling...

    Alternative To Grain Mill

I put a brew down every 3 weeks or so as soon as my fermenter & temperature control fridge is freed up. Been doing extracts using 15l pot. Given ease of BIAB setup plan to brew by this method plus buy a bigger pot & 2 ring gas burner. Will use around 4 - 5kg base malt plus some speciality malts...

    Alternative To Grain Mill

What would be a recommended alternative to a "proper" grain mill. Have seen coffee grinder mentioned - too fine? What about food processor with steel blade? My intended style of brewing is BIAB.

    Sanitizer

I understand it is the Sodium Met gas that does the sanitisation. Would be one reason I am considering changing to Star San as more often than not get a blast of potent gas during sanitisation of fermenter. Sodium Met seems most convienient for bottles as only use a little per bottle.

    Problems With Coopers Pet Bottles?

Thanks guys - had marked suspect bottles - 3 out of 75 to date - each had a little split at bottom. Did a test using 1/2 tsp bicarb and little vinegar and started bubbling out pretty soon

    Problems With Coopers Pet Bottles?

Every brew has one or two bottles that empty themselves within a week of bottling. Has happened in fridge (held at 25C) and in pantry where temperature fluctuates 20C to 30C (bottles are stored on tiled floor so possibly some temperature stability there). FG always within bottling range & stable...

    2nd Fridge For Storing Beer

Lucky enough to live in sunny QLD. Only suitable storage place available for filled PET bottles is in garage where temperature fluctuates between 20 and 32C on hot days. Is a second fridge to store (not lagering) the beer at a more constant (& lower temp) the way to go - my first fridge is...

Beer A Little Fizzy Before Bottling.

interesting you should mention this - have found the same thing - had a (PET) bottle or two in recent brews pump out all the beer thru lid. Never had that before using a fermentation fridge.

    Brewing Classic Styles

Found this great book by Jamil Z and John P as I am looking for partial brew recipes (do not yet have the kit for AG). Really great collection of recipes. However most call for Munich, Pilsner and English Pale Ale LME. These seem to be hard to find and in quantities required costs are...

    Home Brewing Book

I found John Palmer's book a bit heavy going to start off. Quite technical and as such a good reference book once you have mastered the basics. Found "The Complete Guide to Home Brewing in Australia" by Laurie Strachan in the local library which was easy to read and get you going pretty quick.

Plastic Pail For Mashing & Boiling

About to migrate from kit to AG brewing and need to purchase an urn or stock pot for BIAB brewing. Read in a book by well known brewing author that a plastic fermenter can be modified by installing an electric element (ie: will look like an urn). Would anyone recommend this? Sound like a cheap...
