One for the fridgies.

I have a old tuckerbox chest freezer that I have been using as a ferment fridge. In winter I also use a heat mat in it to do ales. The freezer just died - well it is 35 years old - seems to have run out of gas. But that was just after I had the heating mat warming up an ale.

Would like to hear from the experts if the use of a heat mat in the freezer could be detrimental to its operation when I revert back to cooling. Ie - could there be an affect on the gas?

Cheers, Hoges.

I'd be interested to hear about this too. My chesty, seems to have done the same recently under the same circumstances.

I'm surprised no expert has a view on this as I am not alone in my query.

Cheers, Hoges.

Im certainly no expert but I have been using a heat mat & light globe in my fridge for ages without incident. It gets bloody warm in there and then switches back over to cooling in the summer months wihtout issue.

This is a fridge though and I am no expert so this reply could be utterly useless.
