Brew this recipe on Anzac Day, just pitched the yeast tonight.

Threw the hops in at the start of the boil, but onlt 2nd AG and this was the first double batch so ended up having to boil for a bit longer to get my volume down and therefore blew out my target IBU of 28.

Do you reckon that the extra bitterness will overpower the malt flavour?

With that much munich, you could go to 50 IBU and it wouldn't be too bitter. A lot of people may even say you could go higher, but im not that much of a hop head. It would probably be a good thing to raise it up from 38 IBU with the amount of munich you have.

62% munich, 15% cara-amber, 38 IBU will be fine.

57g of Northern Brewer hops into a 40 litres of an pils malt beer would be fine.

cheers

Darren

I just love a good steam beer

Thanks all for the reassurance, I'm sure it will get drunk quick enough whatever the bitterness, but good to know it should still be okay.

THanks Again

So I did a diacetyle rest after about two weeks wiht the SG down to 1.018 for 3 days then chilled it down to 2 before racking into a 20L jerry can and lagering for 4 weeks.

Force carbed last night and just poured the first beer out of the keg. Hops are definately not over done and I wouldnt say overly Malty.

I has an odd taste without really knowing it might have a bit of a sulphur taste.

Anyway, I am off to Bali tonight so will see how she tastes when I get back.
