Hi,

Just interested to know what the most hops people have ever used in a normal batch of beer? and what the hop schedule was, including what type of hops they were?

I'm not sure if there is already a thread on this.... or maybe I read it somewhere else... but I could not find it in the search.
If there already is a thread please direct me and I appologise.

Thanks!

610g in 30 liters.

Did it have any flavour

No tasted like XXXX Gold. pOsted Recipe above in previous post

Its 1 1/2 years old now and still hoppy, just not as in your face as that XXXX Gold.

DK...... you could have added them up for us? Im too lazy

I think a g/liter mark is most appropriate for this thread. Will be interesting to see how high people go.

cheers

i was thinking the same thing.

I have heard a rumour that doc is the reason for the recent hop shortage!

610g in 30 liters.

Pffft, 665gms in 20L here.

Here's The Hoptomic Bomb. Scored pretty well at Bitter & Twisted last year. I changed my calcs to Tinseth after I brewed this as I wasn't happy enough with the taste (true story). When I originally brewed The Bomb, it was over 500IBU. It's in the forums somewhere.

610 grams, wow, even if it was for a 30 litre batch.
I like to think I like hops as much as the next brewer, but I'm not sure my budget would stretch to cover the cost of that quantity of hops, at todays costs somewhere around $50 upwards, but I do admire your determination and style.

PS. I make DK's recipe 472 gr. Obviously a wimp when it comes to adding hops...........

630g in ~42l. It was an imperial IPA. According to SUDS (which I use), it was 101 IBU but my friend's s/w (can't remember what he uses) calc'd it as something like 220. Apparently SUDS takes saturation/solubility limit into account.

1.1kg in a 23 litre batch.
It was my Infinity + 1 brew a year or two ago.
100g of 11 different hops.
It was hoppy and awesome.

Doc

Imperial IPA 352g in 19L, 18.52 g/L. 150g of chinook added in the last 20 minutes

We are hopping mad, right?
It is surely addictive as its cousin....?

I cannot compete with some of you guys, but about 120g ish for a 23 litre batch last year Hoppy Bunny ale.
i cannot remember exactly what hops went in as I chucked in every hop left in the cupboard as it was spring clean and the hops were about 6 months old
(Those were the days before I froze my hops)
So expect the Ibu was around 50+

For APAs I use Cascade and Amarillo to about 45 IBUs thats enough for me. Dry hops with 2g/L in secondary.
For a milder version I put loads in at flame out.
I have also tried First wort hopping and it surely gives a really mellow bittering rather then puckering feel to the brew when you max out the IBUs for style.
Lately I've chucked in hops in to the no chill cube prior filling it up with 80 degrees plus wort.

I've yet to try mash hoppin as my funds doesn't allow for this.

Doc

I tasted this one and it was great. I am not sure we humans (and I say that loosley) can tell the diff between a 60 or 70 IBU brew to a 500 IBU brew. How much bitterness and hop flavour can a wort take up before its just a wastes of money though?

Steve

Pretty Close to Doc's brew, I did this one (1.083kg) - It was great from day 1 in the keg.
Used my entire range of USA Hops & weighed them out all individually.....Have you any idea how long it takes to do 361 x 3gm weighings...never again!!!

But did it taste any more bitter than a IPA at 60 IBU's Ross?
