i just had my first taste off my first homebrew it was just a k4k everything tastes fine except its got a tinny taste to it just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what it may be. It was brewed at 20-22 deg it was in the fermenter for 2 weeks and its been in the bottle 4 3 weeks it was a coopers draught with the coopers be2 and kit yeast im just wondering if i may have accidently scraped some off the inside off the tin into my wort and if i have did i ruin it or is it infected?

It could be a lot of things, but the first thing that comes to mind is that the kit you used was somewhat old.

I would say its a taste of home brew. It wont taste like commercial and I guess I could say a few of mine have had that taste but its hard to say as they are nothing like commercial beer. I wouldnt worry if its drinkable its not going to hurt you, my first 2 brews I couldnt drink I had to mix with half mega swill lol but that was from to high temps.

Not a chance, IMO. Relax on that front.

Always a possibility but the first thing that comes to my mind is kit twang, like kelby. In my experience there is not one specific twang, nor is there one way it is perceived (if there is a difference between the two). One is definitely metallic (as is old LME). I know a few people here who want to say in a definitive manner that metallic flavours in kit brews automatically means old LME (not pointing a finger at you, your point is valid) but my experience doesn't bear that out.

i have found that normal sugar can cause tinny tastes darker sugars are worse.. although i haven't noticed it with better yeasts. try a brew enhancer, if that doesn't work then try a different (better yeast) than whats in the kit (the kit yeast is poo anyway). if that doesn't work lower your brew temps.

as a kit& steeped grain only brewer I would do as others sugested chuck the kit yeast & drop your temps to 18*,just kegged my 36th brew and havent had a bad[homebrew twang]one yet all brewed @ 18*+never used kit yeast
ps:anyone want 36 sachetts of coopers yeast

:icon_offtopic: Throw the sachets into your boil. Will make a good yeast nutrient substitute.
