Moved to kegs a couple of months ago now. At first I thought I would drink more. Probably did during the first couple of batches because of the novelty facter. But recently ive noticed im not drinking as much as when I used bottles. With the bottles i would've usually had 4, 5 brews drinkable at once so Id stock the fridge up with a selection every morning. I would normally knock most of them off when I got home from work. But now with only 2 kegs im finding I just have a few middies of an evening. Ive even now got fermenters queuing up to get into the kegs. Which for me is very bizarre. Am I going soft? Do I need more than 2 kegs? Do I need to see a doctor? Its all a bit off putting to tell the truth. :p

Steve!!! You've stunned me.

I find with kegs the common thread seems to be to drink more... Much more in fact. :beerbang:

Get to work boy.

Nope your not soft, im exactly the same. Beer on tap is great, means you dont have to crack a longie and finish the whole thing.

If you have fermenters queing up tho there is two solutions.

1. Buy more kegs.

2. Call the boys for a session!

i find that I average 2 pints a night which is more than the previous 2-3 stubbies that I would drink when bottling.

You alright Steve?

This is all quite concerning! :(

You know the answer.

MORE KEGS MORE KEGS MORE KEGS MORE KEGS MORE KEGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

Scott

You are approaching it the wrong way. If you have a backlog of fermenters, you've got to drink more to free up the kegs to put the new beer in. Otherwise it is going to lose its flavour before you even keg it :p

when ross runs out i got some more polished kegs for you here.LoL

plus you shouldn't let it sit too long as it may "go off"....well so i tell my wife. ;)

Same here Steve. I went a little nuts in the first couple of months. I found pint glasses were the killer. Oooh, I'll have another one, i've only had three beers...

Now on school nights I stick to the middy glasses when I'm not having an AFD. I usually pull up after 1 or 2 and it's helping keep the weight down.

I also found that I was running out of keg space for the brews. I employed 2 solutions - buy more kegs and invite more mates around to help. Both are working rather well for me...

Yep working on that... Time to go and grab my third pint. :chug:

Six kegs in the kegorator inside the house, but just had to go and grab a half stein from the kegorator in the shed. Gotta love this hobby :beerbang:
Edit: Oh, and pint number two. :p

Beers,
Doc

Steve,

i bet you are drinking more than you think (remember). It is all too easy to pull that tap a couple of extra times during the night.

Try putting a pen and paper next to the kegs and mark each one you get. Add them up at the end of the night and I reckon it will come very close, if not more, than the total of empties you would have otherwise had on the sink.

I remember thinking the same. When I was honest with myself I realised it was more  .

cheers

Darren

Steve, it's great to see you've taken the first step and publicly acknowledged the problem. Few people have the courage to do this. We can see you want to change and I want you to know that we are all here for you.

I think it's best to take one step at a time. You'll need to search deep within AHB though and this can be hard but we know you can do it.

First Step: Fill a keg with NRB's All Amarillo Ale. (Search and you will find the answer.)

Second Step: Fill the other keg with Batz's Altbier. (In a different place but you will find it.)

We all take time to adjust to new situations Steve and kegging is no different. If you follow the steps above, I'm sure that what you are experiencing now - quivering in a corner somewhere saying, 'HTFU Steve,' - will become a memory and an experience from which you can help others grow.

Your honesty has brought tears to my eyes.

I know you'll get through this Steve and our thoughts are with you,
Pat

I have a solution to the drinking too much problem. Make my 'Whitewash Pilsner' recipe, and it will moderate your drinking FOR you. Too many in a row and you won't be able to reach the tap anymore

Thanks all for you comments. I appreciate it through these difficult times. As it happens I got home went to one tap....pshhs bubble bubble, dribble. Hmmm I thought "things are looking up". Went to the other tap...pshsh bubble bubble, dribble. Hmmm I thought "this is like Christmas". Had a look in my brew book and the second tap had only being in the keg 6 days  Where did it all go? Do I have a leak? I quickly rinsed them out, filled them up with my Munich 58 Ale and AndrewQLD Bosuns best bitter. I feel like a new man!
Cheers
Steve

P.S. I think I need two more kegs

i'v noticed the brewery has moved from the laundry to the carport now steve

i'm hopeing that my drinking will cut down when i eventually get kegs (ie. don't have to open a whole long neck when all i want is a pot) but even i know 2 kegs won't be nearly enough :)

I located my keg fridge in my garage/brewery at the farthest end of my property but I still find that this has failed to make a dint into my consumption. Even when it's pissing down rain I still may the trip out for a pint or two, three, four etc.
