Last night I put a Modern UK Summer Ale into secondary, made on 1469 West Yorkshire Bitter. In the cube was a UK Dark Mild ready to be pitched. After transferring the Summer Ale to secondary I was impressed how clean the primary fermenter was, how attractive the yeast cake sitting on the bottom. On the spur of the moment I did something I have never done before and poured the whole damn cube into the fermenter and thrashed it like an English Nanny.

Now at the same time, in a Schott Bottle, I had been culturing up a smack pack of Wyeast Ringwood, which is also a Yorkie type yeast. Raising my skull and crossbones flag I said "Shiver me timbers let's do it me hearties" and whacked the Ringwood in as well.

The beast started moving the airlock within 45 minutes and is hammering away at a neat 18 degrees. Words like Incestuous come to mind. I'll post on the results.

Nothing like a spur of the moment decision. Hard to see a good yeast cake go to waste. It will be interesting none the less.

As if the WY and 'sperm donor' is going to be happy and comfortable under all that lot- I mean its a cylindrical fermenter & all (i.e. not a square), putting a lid with an airlock over the top is just asking for more strife! ;)
If it doesn't nudge 30, try to escape and dissolve the cat this morning, I'll be quite surprised. :lol:

Nice one though, I a did Ringwood reculture repitch on to 1768 before, that was before I'd realised that 1768 can be tardy, turned out interesting. I also pitched on to a whole 1469 yeastcake once, worked fairly well, we drank some at ChapChap's a few weekends ago. Grain to brain is pretty quick, three days and it was all over and wasn't objectionable once in the bottle for a few weeks.

Aye, even though Talk Like a Pirate Day was a couple of weeks ago, its so good to see it still lingers on. Avast scurvy dogs, 'ere be dragins! :p
 
Barbecued Nanny goats in a dead man's chest aarr. Yes they had a talk like a pirate day at work - fortunately I was off that day and missed it thank God. :p
 
It frothed through the airlock initially but when I cleaned it up, it behaved itself at 18 degrees and was finished fermenting in 3 days. I'm bottling it this afternoon and will have a couple of sneaky tastes as I go.

I'll report tomorrow, The Big Burper dropped round for a few this afternoon and we were both fairly legless by tea time. I was definitely too pissed to put the sugar cubes accurately into the 2L ALDI PET bottles so I'll be calling it an early night as soon as this keg runs out :icon_chickcheers:
 
Mike has done a mix of 1187 and 1469 IIRC...it was a beer in the sa winter case swap...very nice!
