Hi all

I am hoping that somene might be able to provide some advice.

I live in melbourne

Planted cascade and chinook rhizomes in spring

The sprouted and climbed the garden fence and were growing OK allowing for a few hiccups with black spot (in summary not thriving but going OK)

The february hot winds basically burnt all foilage and the stems to a dry crisp.

Will they rejuvenate over the winter after a cutback to to the ground ? or given the trauma are they baaiscally dead forever??

They probably should have already resprouted by now, I am surprised they have not!

If they do not sprout, wait till mid winter and have a scratch around and see what you can find, you might find the rhizome crown down there somewhere!

They are probably OK, but a bit sore.
I suggest that you don't cut the tops back until they are completely shivelled and dry, because the nutrients in the plant should be transported back into the rhizome for storage.
