Howdy

Just watched last nights episode of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" from Foxtel's comedy channel.

Renowned Beerhunter Michael Jackson was one of the guests looking pretty plastered & definitely the worse for wear. Two minutes into the interview the host also pointed out that Michael had his fly undone.

Mr Jackson then went on to pour some pint-sized "samples" of Dogfish Head's Golden Ale & a smoked beer called "Meantime" for Conan to try.

While he was still fairly coherent, poor Michael looked like he woas about to fall off his chair.

I think it's repeated about 1pm today. Classic beer tv.

What a classic :D

Probably set the image of beer connoisseurs back 50 years - Can't image a wine critic putting on a performance like that... I'm still laughing though :D

Cheers Ross

I think he is with it, just getting on in the years.
I also think the fly open bit was a gag as a nice segway to the ************* beer.
Great clip.

Beers,
Doc

I reckon it's just plain bloody sad and embarrasing... He's set the beer world back 20 years allowing O'Brien to do his piss-taking. :(

Having met MJ 5 years ago I'm wondering how such a nice bloke has become a virtual parody of himself.

Turned it off... Made me sick in the guts.

Warren -

The whole thing seemed a little set up, typical talk show.

I hate it when people try a good beer and say " tastes like beer." May as well give them VB and be done with it

I agree Doc, I think that he has just aged terribly since the Beer Hunter videos, but he is very lucid and logical.

It looks to me that he knew the type of reception that he was going to get so is playing up a bit - including the purposely open fly.

Quite appropriate for the "Oh really - you don't like Corona" crowd.

Well done MJ !

David

While it may be a set up, how can people who haven't heard of him begin to even think about seriously buying his book when he looks/acts/performs/goes on like that? He seemed pretty sharp when he spoke though.

Cheers.

I had a chat with him at last years GBBF & he was great - Can't believe he's gone downhill that fast - If it was an act though, it was bloody convincing... :)

cheers Ross...

Just reading a similar thread on Brewboard.
One of the guys dug up a post on MJ's website from the last time he was on Conan see here.
Looks like it was a repeat performance.

I guess that was earlier in the day?

From what I've heard he's normally quite drunk at the end of festivals...

Meantime is a brewery in Greenwich. Their tap is about 25 min walk from my house

I didn't know they were making a smoked bock, I haven't been there in a while. Going to have to seek that one out.

I cant find any mention on line of the new edition of the great beers of Belguim book...anyone show me the light?
