Hi all,

Interesting story in the SMH regarding the new ad campaign being run by the SA gov't in the UK to encourage more settlers. It includes a bit of a swipe at the locality of Staines (chosen because of its nasty name). However Staines has proven rather stubborn:

"Andrew Hirst, the Mayor of Spelthorne, a borough that includes Staines, said it was "an attractive riverside town with a lot more going for it than [Australians'] weak beer".

I'd agree with the beer comment if it refers to the mainstream.

cheers

Patrick.

I once had a dog called Staines

There was a video of this news story floating around work today, doesn't appear to be on youtube. Wasn't that funny either... apart from the mayor who looked like he came out of a book of stereotypes; perfectly tailored suit, with a felt sash and a set of teeth that puts you off your lunch.
