Boffins chill out with solar-powered beer bottles

The best invention ever ... probably
Robert Jaques, vnunet.com 12 Jul 2006

Beer bottles that use solar power to keep their precious contents cool in the height of summer could be a welcome fringe benefit of thin-film technology currently under development.

The material being developed by researchers at the US Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute sticks solar cells and heat pumps onto surfaces, and could ultimately turn walls, windows and even beer bottles into climate control systems.

Oh the dichotomy; you'd have to put your fermenter in the sun so that it could cool :D
However a keg at a party with solar power to keep cool is a great idea.

Good one Doc,
Can you imagine going to the bottle shop and asking for some COLD beers and they get the ones out of the backyard in the sun because they are colder than the ones at room temperature.
Cheers 15BL

After a few hours in the sun to cool down we may end up with lots of very cold but badly lightstruck beer...

Cheers
Dave
