Does anyone one in the Brisbane area have any polycarbonate tube off cuts they aren't using before I venture forth and get slugged for a 3 metre lenght?
I'm pretty sure there was a thread covering this recently, but buggered if I can find it.

Winkle... while i don't have any offcuts i did buy a sight tube kit from the states recently with Kleiny and i'm more than happy with how it turned out. If you can't find any off cuts or the price for a long length isn't favorable, check out here for the kits. Sight Glass Kits

I did some break downs including costs as below;

WLSL - Weldless Sightglass Elbow Kit x 1 = $38.95 US Delivered
Inclusive of shipping and handling of $14.00 US

WLSL - Weldless Sightglass Elbow Kit x 2 = $63.90 US Delivered
Inclusive of shipping and handling of $14.00 US

WLSL - Weldless Sightglass Elbow Kit x 3 = $174.85 US Delivered
Inclusive of shipping and handling of $100.00 US

Looks like the way to go is buy 2... somehow 3 blows out shipping!! i don't think that's accurate but without asking... In reality would just be 2 packages of $14.00 US each.

g'day winkle,

mate i have few lengths of tempered glass @ 400mm long, whilst it's not polycarbonate it will take the pressure of a swagelok compression fitting without breaking, you just have to be careful how you treat it.

if you have no luck, one of them is yours for the price of postage or if you can organise someone going from Bundy to Bris.

cheers

Dave

A 3m length from DOTMAR is about $26, Perry... If that's any help. Maybe someone else will buy the offcut from you... ;)

DOTMAR Plastics

Might be easier than frigging about if you want it now...

Thanks Dave, I'll have a look around over the weekend and see what I can dig up.

Woops... I stand corrected. Bought mine in Sydney three years ago and that's what it was then. Just rang Brisbane and it seems it's now $45 a length.

Still pretty good price when you look at how many sight tubes you get for your $45.

BTW if you go that way I wouldn't mind a couple to suit 50L kegs for my on again/off again brew stand project.....

Thats probably why I didn't buy a lenght last time I looked :)

(Edit: I'll let you know if I get the 3m, Thomas)

I could use a metre or so of that stuff myself Winkle if cost sharing helps.

Can someone answer my dumb question please? Just wanna check. Polycarb tube to use for a sightglass is 1/2" Outside Diameter? (Not ID?)
Thanks.

You must be a council plumber... Only they can have 1/2" I.D. x 3/8" O.D. tube and run water up hill...

You don't think he might have meant 3/4" OD by some chance? LOL

Seems a bit big to my eye, but I'm not all that familiar with hard plastic tubing, being more the SS bling kinda guy that I am. :D

LMAO! :D Slapping forehead right now! Not sure where I pulled that from (apart from the obvious).

Let's try again. If it has an ID of 1/2" what size will required OD be. What I mean, is the wall thickness of 1/2" polcarb standard or are there differeing wall thicknesses available?
I ask as I am trying to get my facts straight before I buy some.

Cheers.

my 1/2" poly carb tube is from specialised wholesale and plastics in lambton, nsw. I got a 2m length for about $12 about 4 years ago. I'm almost certain it's 1/2" OD, I bought 1/2" compression fittings to go with it and they fit like a glove.

These are the two common used sies;

12.7 mm O.D. x 9.5 mm I.D.
or

15.9 mm O.D. x 12.7 mm I.D.

The latter of the two is the one you want if you wish to use 1/2" BSP compression fittings. The former if you want to use 3/8" BSP compression fittings.
