It is a shameless plug but the fact is the more people that watch my new food show - "The Food Trail" the better the opportunity I have of making more of the shows and earning a living!!!!

Besides it is not so out of place here in the first episode (last sat) I went to Holgate and brewed my Peach Ale and then at the end of the episode I made a pork and pumpkin peach ale curry!

episode 2 screens tomorrow at 5.30 on channel seven and besides being a good episode I also make a seafood rissotto with Hoegaarden!

I am doing my bit and my best to raise the awareness of beer and all it can be as the wonderful product it is!

Cheers

The more people that watch the show the better the chance I can make more and of course that means putting more beer in the show.

Congrats on the new show Merc, I hope it is a big hit for you. I also hope your going to give AHB a bit of a plug too?

Cheers
Andrew

Merc,
Maybe you could visit some of the fantastic microbreweries in Adelaide. Then do the world.

cheers

Congrats Mercs Own.

Will you spread the good word about homebrewing and give AHB a plug as well?

I have shot the first six episodes already but i promise if you watch them all and I get another series up I will promote or at least plug AHB. As for promoting beer.... no bloody probs.

Paul.

I had to laugh when Ernie Sigley said that a 5.5% beer is "strong"

Hard to educate the masses at times eh?

Warren -

i'll try and check it out, any show that promotes beer is worth a look.

any chance of the recipe for curry????

Saw you talk about this on "that other show" the other night. Congrats and i hope it pans out. Sorry but i won't be a viewer, my antenna aint big enough to pick up Melbourne only shows.

Thanks for letting us know Mercs. Sounds good and I'll certainly have a watch. I can't see any shame in your, 'shameless plug,' especially when as humbly titled as yours! Cheers Merc.

Damn! Just checked the TV guide. Newcastle is showing some crap called "Sydney Weekender."

Yes it is frustrating that the show is only being shown in Victoria. The producer and I are working to get the network to go Australia wide and I am confident that it will happen - hopefully at a descent time slot! I will let you guys know when that happens. I will put the curry recipe in the recipe section. I am putting a recipe section up on my beer site - www.mercsown.com.au - soon and this will have all my beer recipes on it.

Will be watching this afternoon...

I did notice that there is one conspicuous absence from the links page on the Merc's Own website!!!

Was looking for that fine sounding curry recipe... still coming?

Peach Ale sold out?
Better give the recipe so we can make our own.... :D

Any advance news of what the 2 upcoming beers will be?

darkhorse, the recipe page will hopefully be put up soon and as the recipe page on this site is not up yet I have posted the recipe below.

I actually gave out the Paech Ale recipe when I first joined the site so I am sure you can find it. Let me know how you go with it. The difficult part is getting 100% depectinised peach juice.

The two new beers are: Fathers Favourite Ale a us style Amber Ale and Summer Ale a Kolsch - the Summe Ale label has already had a poll on the site. The plan is to have the Fathers Favourite out by early April (if I can get the label right  ) and the Summer Ale out in September.

There are a few if's but I am working on it.

Pork and Pumpkin Red Curry

Peanut oil
Spanish red onion
Half a red capsicum cut in thin strips
Red curry paste depending on you heat threshold 1 4 tblsp
Pork neck diced in 4- 5cm cubes I like my curry meat to be cut in big chunks
1 tblsp Tamarind paste
1 can of Coconut cream
Bottle of Mercs Own Peach Ale
Kaffir lime leaves about 4
kilo pumpkin cubed
kilo potato cubed
8 squash cut in half
2 zucchini cut in rounds
Fresh Coriander

Sweat sliced onions and capsicum in oil until almost starting to go golden add curry paste and cook for a minute or two then add the pork and mix well to coat the meat then add the Tamarind Paste. Cook high for a couple of minutes stirring all the time. Add the beer and mix then add the coconut cream, lime leaves and pumpkin and potato. Cook in oven at 170 Fan Forced or 180 for about 40 - 60 minutes. Then add squash and zucchini and cook for a further 30 - 40 minutes depending on how you like your veggies done.

I like to cook this dish long and slow so that the pork is melt in your mouth tender. The pumpkin will breakdown completely if you do cook it long and it then mixes with all of the cooking juices to make a rich pumpkin sauce!

Stir through some chopped coriander and then serve in a big bowl on some rice. Garnish with Coriander.

Of course a Mercs Own Peach Ale goes great with this dish balancing out the heat from the curry and complementing the fruitiness of the pork and pumpkin.

Damn i would love to watch it, Hopefully you can get it showing australia wide. Good on ya for promoting beer mate!

Good news is 251000 victorians watched me cook a rissotto with beer last Sat. We came second in the ratings - lost to the damn football! Dont people understand I need to spread the word about beer!!! Hope no one here watched the footy instead of my show :excl:

Your loss and beers too.

Hey it's a hard sell at the best of times. I am out there doing it!

Hey Merc

If you get your show on in Perth i will definately be watching.

Maybe you could include home brewers(breweries) in future episodes :super: just an idea.

Anyway good luck and hope your show takes off, sounds like its off too a good start.

Cheers

Richard

Or maybe Merc will do a DVD at the end of the series.
Would be good for another BULK BUY
