Brewed our second AG beer today.
We tried a step mash, but the immersion element got some grain stuck to it resulting in flicking the safety switch! Long story short, we did a 7L decoction to heat up the mash along with some additional sparge water (we mashed in with a low ratio so had some space in the tun).

Our efficiency lifted from 70 to 73 on this recipe, plus we got 60L instead of our planned 55L at 1049. Bonus alround there! :D

Cheers Gregg.

Also managed to burn my toe with boiling water when fly sparging...! Nothing a few beers wont fix though...

Decocting on your second AG :super: and its a Weizen too well done, can't wait to hear how the beer turned out. Well done chaps

Sounds and looks like you had a great day.
Dont ya just love those cubes  Got one of my own sitting on the shed floor cooling.

Good on ya guys.. Love those shirts..

We now have matching brew shirts.... scary stuff indeed! ;)

Cam organised the shirts... not me. I like the saying on them though. Never a truer word spoken...

Well done Rav's,

Looks like you nailed that one with a Decoction 'n all too boot! I'm not brave enough to go there yet, might have to get some tips off ya?

BB on those shirts Rav's? Awesome!

How did ya mush tun cope? I have the same esky which is really borderline big enough for double batches (46lt) definitely would struggle to go for 60lt. What catches me out is the recess for the lid acts like a weir if I'm not careful.

Do you have a bit of a moment with the hops additions looks pretty foamy around the rim? :icon_drunk:

Sure is one nice boiler you've got. Thanks for sharing the day with us. :icon_cheers:

Edit: Spelting

The decoction came about coz the immersion element kept shorting out! So we couldn't heat our mash (being in a plastic esky...)

Yep, I managed to overfill the esky too, and had wort dripping down the sides, just like you mentioned above.

We had a slight boil over prior to hops additions as the lid was on - well spotted! Once hops went in it was ok, plenty of head space in that massive kettle.

We have to fly sparge doing double batches due to esky size.

Not sure where Cam got the shirts, probably Cheap as Chips or similar! But they are gold... will ask him next time, not quite sure on the BB though

Now we just need a brew rig like yours Chappo!

I love this AG Brewing obsession!
