Hi all, this will be the last brew I do for a month or so. I have all the ingredients ready to go for this weekend. The intention of the recipe is a light coloured refreshing beer with a good bite of bitterness. It is as follows:

TYPE: Partial Mash
Taste: (35.0)

Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size: 23.00 L
Boil Size: 10.00 L
Estimated OG: 1.052 SG
Estimated Color: 8.9 EBC
Estimated IBU: 28.8 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 65.0 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amount Item Type % or IBU
3.00 kg Pale Liquid Extract (5.3 EBC) Extract 69.0 %
1.00 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC) Grain 23.0 %
0.10 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (50.0 EBC) Grain 2.3 %
45.00 gm Pride of Ringwood [10.00%] (60 min) Hops 24.0 IBU
25.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [5.20%] (20 min) Hops 4.2 IBU
10.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [5.20%] (5 min) Hops 0.6 IBU
0.30 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 5.0 min) Misc
0.25 kg Corn Syrup (2.0 EBC) Sugar 5.7 %
1 Pkgs SafAle (DCL Yeast #US-05) Yeast-Ale

Please tell me if there's anything awfully wrong with it lol, thankyou

Nothing wrong with that recipe. :D

If I had to suggest anything, it'd be to add a bit more EKG at 5, but that really depends on your taste as is just nitpicking really.

yeah i was thinking about upping it to 20g or so

Drop the Pride and go EKG all the way. I love EKG. Now Pride... well Pride is Pride.

was thinking about it goatherder, but i have 60g of POR sitting here but not enough EKG to do the job.

I've found PoR at 60 gives it that little "Australiana" feel without being offensive at all. If you have it to use, at 60 is the best time for it.

that's exactly what i was thinking Adamt, stuff the english heritage, it's an Aussie bitter! lol

To achieve Aussie IMO use Nugget (60 min Bittering) and Cluster (20min Flavour), have a look at AndrewQld's recipe. Now, I like POR but 45g of POR in that gravity would turn your ears backward :( . If you like POR try 5G with 30g of Nugget for bittering to start with then adjust according to your taste.

Screwy

I really think you should relook at your IBU calcs for POR. With aa. = 10% I think that having that in for 60 Minutes with 40g with give you a butt load more bitterness that you are anticipating. Try working your calcs again maybe.... Although this is just me looking at it, might be wrong but i really doubt it. Looks like you'll overshoot your bitterness goal by about 2x.
Regards
Lee
I might be about to be hammered here. Should really promash it but what the hell

20g of EKG at 5 sounds just right for that brew I think.

Nothing wrong with pride for bittering. I'd rallied against for a long time but the few I've done with it since are very nice beers. Not saying I'll use it all the time by any means...

I'd consider dropping it a little but I'd say your ears are safe :)

I did the calc in beersmith leeboy, but I can see your cause for concern as I'm only doing a 10 litre boil and I just changed it to a 27 litre boil in beersmith to see what it would say and it came back with 47IBU from the POR. I think the IBU should hopefully be about right given my boil size.
