Problem Sealing fermenter lids?

If I want to shake my fermenter I just loosely put the lid on cover the airlock hole with my finger and shake.

I usually use a spray bottle of sodium per carbonate followed by a spray bottle of starsan to clean and sanitise, the starsan does not need to soak to sanitise (in fact the foam will sanitise on contact).

I have just started doing the glad-wrap thing and love it. To aerate my wort I use a large paint stirrer (looks a little like a potato masher) from the big green shed http://www.bunnings.com.au/paint-mixer-uni-pro-620mm-mixes-4-10-15l-cans-123_p1660269 although I have been considering one of those O2 kits that I've seen discussed elsewhere here.

Cheers Andrew.

Vaseline is petroleum based and should never be used on any rubber gasket or o ring as it will eat away at it over time

Keg Lube my friends Keg Lube!
Its head safe food safe and should preserve the seals for longer.
I wasnt getting a seal on my fermenters lid until i thought about how we seal kegs when they leak.
I also lube up my gromits, it makes it eaiser to get the thermowell in.

Alo get a craft knife and trim the exsess plastic (where the injection moulding leaves a slight lip) so there is a nice smooth seal for the rubber to sit on.

Just to clarify a point, the O rings on the fermenters are synthetic rubber so Vaseline is fine.I would use Wet Stuff or KY but Vaseline adheres better and I don't like the idea of of something that is meant to be smeared over private parts getting into my beer
Going off the subject slightly and this is a true story, when I was to young to know better I did use Vick's Vapour rub as a prelude to sex, I was just glad I smeared it on her and not me.
