I was lucky enough to receive an invite to the release of the Hunter Beer Co Hopmonster.

Its a delectable beer, perfectly balanced and very very drinkable

6.5% ABV, light amber with a wonderful malt character. the hops are big but perfectly suited to the malt. both are there but the hops poke out in the end.......and they are great.

bitterness is a well ballanced, slight pucker in the cheeks and complements malt well. flavor and aroma match and are floral and plesent.

I said it tonight and i will say it again.

You hear people talk of well crafted beers, but when you tast them...... they are just beer.

This is well crafted beer, its something special which is a rare thing these days.

The night was great and a big thanks to Luke and all the potters staff for their hospitality.

I met a few AHB members i have spoken to but not met before which was great.

all in all a tops night.

here is Luke pouring a hop monster (i wonder how much we left?)

cheers

Sounds good Tony. What hops are in it? Is it an American style or something else? I must say a "hoppy" beer is something that has been missing from Potters for quite some time! Good to see!! :beerbang:

I bet it's no Shazzam. Next time you're there be sure to ask Luke about it.

Its an American IPA.

I saw a sheet with the hop list on it....... but i cant remember, i was too busy sipping :)

I know one was Wilamette and ther werre some C words in there.

I am like fonzy and the sorry word with american hops usually but this was nice.

perhaps others involved can elaborate on the hops.

cheers

cheers

Mate - you had Bottled Shazzam and we the CREATORS of said brew have not had the chance. Tim what you reckon about that ey!! Ey!! Seems we'll have to wait till the next Chrissie party in January... ;)

You may not be aware of the story behind Shazzam, it is 10% at 100IBU. The lab tech when testing it did the testing 3 times as the first time he did the test he thought something wrong with the equipment. The second time he felt uncomfortable. The third test he got real scared!

When Shazzam came out to play at the next Brewers Guild meeting things went 'ploop' and all pear shaped about 10pm. The pub was scared to sell it after the effect it had on the brewers....

Shazzam- she really does ROCK! in the Ronny James Dio sorta way...

Scotty

<edit> Damm lucky Tony

Didn;t they use the Hops that are growing over their tennis court for the Hop Monster?

and will the Hop Monster only be on tap or are they bottling it too?

yeah they used their own hops they grew at the brewery.

I have no idea about what their arangements are regarding bottles ect.

give them a ring if you want some, but get in quick.

cheers

Potters make some real nice beer..

My Partners favourite is the Hunter Kolsch....and it is not hard to see why..

I always get in trouble when I go there cause I drink to much and she has to wait around whilst I sample large amounts of nice beer.

First Post!!!

I tried the Hop Monster yesterday afternoon, and I absolutly loved it. I would highly reccomend it, and their Pale Ale.

Ill definatly be returning in the coming weeks for another sample, and to take the tour, to pick the head brewers brain..

I was most unsettled to see that in the 30 mins i was there, the dozen or so people who came to the bar all ordered New or VB, i was astonished.....to have all that opportunity in front of you, and it goes wasted.

oh well. great beer that hop monster

What a great beer. I was lucky enough to call in to Potters last week. I was secondly lucky to get talking to Keith the Beer Guy. Great chat with him including a few tastes of the beers, including the hopmonster. As somebody said earlier, it's a harvest ale, with fresh, undried hops grown on the premises. As Tony says, very well balanced beer. Plenty of malt to back up the hop mixture. I was there with the family and some friends and we shared a taster paddle. My favourites were the APA and the Kolsch. Then to top the day off, Keith appeared with a bottle of the Hopmonster. What a star! :super: (Of course, we did continue to the shop to buy a few more bottles. :chug: )

Thanks for making the visit special, Keith. Your enthusiasm for your job shone through and it seems like you've got your dream job. Who could want more than to work making ginger beer. ;)

Thanks for the postive feedback Stuster, much appreciated.

But, believe me, the pleasure was mine. It was great to meet you Stuster, and put a face to a name. I am glad you enjoyed yourself and had a chance to enjoy the Hopmonster.

Look forward to seeing you next time you visit the Hunter.

Happy Brewing,

Keith

The hopmonster has my attentions :p
Seriously considering fuelling up the car and going for a drive this arvo :p

Doc

Swing by here first and pick up a few empties to take with you to fill :)

I would have to say that I would be shocked if there were many bottles left of the hopmonster, it was such a disgracefully easy drinking beer, and really well balanced, it should have been walking out the door! If there is still any available, grab it. I was lucky enough to see the hop picking process on the day it was made, and took a few sneaky snaps. Big thanks to Luke and Keith for letting me hang around.
Hops still on the stems, waiting to be plucked
Some queer looking rooster in the picking room
The resin that came out of the hops looking very sticky.
All the best
Trent

Hop Hash in that last photo :beerbang:

I'm heading to the Hunter mid August for a few days after my cousin's wedding in Newcastle. I'm sure I could convince my wife to drop in for a couple.
