Been in the GC for the Institute of brewing and Distilling Conference and gotta say its a tough world up here ... the poor AHB Brethrn in these parts.

But on good advise from Ross at Stone and Wood, we headed to the Pink Poodle on the GC Highway and have not been dissapointed. Good variety of different beers in the fridge and ontap, with a special keg of Mountain Goat last friday (even Dave from MG was chuffed to see it on there). Aparently S&W had to drop up an emergency keg on Friday ... wonder why!

The food is also great, well prepared and thought out. And then there is the host, whose name escapes me, but is a real beer nut and with owners like that you can be rest assured he will be open for years to come.

Its about a $10-ner south from the strip to the bar, but worth every cent. And I even got a souvener stubbie cooler, which is going straight to the pool room.

All the reports we heard about PP were the same Scotty. Only prob we had were our Chinese guests who wanted Aussie seafood. Went to this Chinese seafood restaurant on St Pats day (evening) and thought I would have a Guinness. Two of our guests did the same - then no more! Bloody hell - on St Pats Day! Anyway the restaurant sent somebody out for more supplies and bingo - more Guinness (the CUB Extra version). That was the most interesting beer on the menu. And the GC is definitely a beer desert - especially the hospitality suite....

Good to hear about this place. Maybe next time with the family.

A year or 2 ago up there with a bunch of old mates for a bucks weekend, looking up somewhere to get food I saw advertised it in the apartments advert folder. I did my best to persuade the guys to check it out but still ended up with pizza & strippers...

Sort of a bittersweet result i guess.

What can we say Wes, what can we say!

Yep, I always try to get to the Pink Poodle when I'm on the Gold Coast.

Saw Australia beat Japan at the last World Cup on the big screen there. The place was going off. Plenty of opposition supporters to enjoy a beer with before, during and after the game too

Have to agree - dropped in yesterday for the first time in ages and was very impressed.

Great variety on tap, LCPA, White Rabbit, Big Helga, Stone & Wood and others.

Super selection in the fridge of Aussie craft stuff as well as some NZ craft stuff.

Not sure the descriptions of some beers in the beer menu - Rochefort 8 is described as the 'classic stout' but was very impressed. But the Belgians still make an appearance.

$15 pint bottles of LC IPA not so flash, bit a keg being tapped there on the 16th - think I'll make the effort to get along.

Sign on the bar said Rogue beers on their way soon too.

Still not a great bar in terms of atmosphere and a terrible location, but thank God they now have some decent beers on.

So by the looks/sounds of things it's not just Belgian beers anymore? Too many different beers out there to be limited like that

The Belgians seem to have taken a back seat, but are still there.

Glad that they've done something with the place - it stopped being a 'Belgian bar' some time back and became another very run of the mill bar in Surfers Paradise.

Needed something to differentiate itself because of it's ordinary location. The Casino has broadened it's horizons in the recent past too.

Hooray! Good beer on the Gold Coast. Who'd have thunk it? :D
