It's about $9 for a pint of LCPA at The Australian here in Sydney. JS pints at Kings St Wharf as Gerard alluded to are also in the $7 - 8 range.

The Australian used to be a bit of a fav for Sunday lunch, with great pizza & awesome beers. Had a quick bite & a few beers there last November & that was the last $$ they will get out of me. How can they charge that much for a beer when you are sitting on a wonky chair on the footpath when you drink it?????

Ok not a bad lurk if you were the guy that owns it I guess.

Cheers
Gerard

I gave a $10 note for a Corona in a then chic club called "Rouges" off Oxford Street in ... you know where it is! The bloke behind the bar put the lot in the till. When I asked after my change, he shrugged his shoulders. W@nker. That was well before the new millenium. But the skirt their was worth it :)

hi, what time of day/night did this price apply.? some pubs are open till 4 am in the morning.

cheers

Barman probably thought you where a Kiwi with Barrrbra under your arm and charged you double... :p

At the weekend, not only did I miss Ashers brewday but also had the pleasure of paying probably the highest price for beer in a pub that I can remember.

Kalgoorlie Hotel - Becks $6 a middy

Exchange Hotel, Kal. - $10 a pint of LCPA

Palace Hotel, Kal. - $8.25 a stubby of LCPA

Can anyone better these rip offs or is Kalgoorlie the most expensive watering hole ( hole being the operative word ) in the country?

As I recall, all three of those establishments provide skimpy young ladies to pour the beer, obviously you didnt find the scenery justified the charges?

Every pub in perth when you buy 2 pints of anything and hand over a $20 note you never get any notes back, just some coin.

and yes... it sucks knowing you could have made a whole brew for that.

I just had a friend over for a week and I managed to spend $1000 in the week with 90% of that going on beer (all Matilda Bay and LC of course :) )

Hmmm, i think i may have been there that day GM, my memory serves me differently... the chairs weren't so wonky, but you may have been.. :p

Regional was the brand of beer ...

Yeah I know. He's one of the brewers there.

Back OT. I don't know what I'm gonna do for the first few weeks back in OZ. I can't see myself paying those exorbitant prices for draught beer, let alone packaged stuff.

Paid about 8 or 9YTL (~$6-7) for a stubbie of Efes Dark in Fransiz Sokak (French St) in Istanbul.
Outrageous prices for Turkey, but it was an awesome place to sit for a couple of hours drinking beer.

Doesn't really fit in with the rest of the conversation but I've had a few and I want to gloat.

Just knocked up a quick lager---------
4kg Kirin @ 80c = $3.20
200gm crystal @ $6.00 = $1.20
60gm hops @ $13.00 = $0.80
Power & gas say $3.00
Total$8.20, or less than the price of a pint of beer that tastes nearly as good as the stuff we all make. No wonder I am dragged kicking and screaming over the threshold when i have to frequent a pub.

Hear hear, Tony. Did a batch last night that was

2kg JW Pils @ $2 = $4
1kg JW Wheat @ $3 = $3
300g Caramalt @ $5 = $1.50
100g Carapils @ $6 = $0.60
300g Cane Sugar @ $0.80 = $0.25

Hops - 55g Simcoe/Amarillo/B Saaz @ $40 per kg = $2.20

Yeast - Recultured WLP036 - free

Gas/Power/Water - $2

Total $13.55 for 23L, less than a sixpack and less than the cost of 2 fancy beers at the pub

Of course, you have to assume that our labour costs nothing and the equipment is fully paid for!

As a home brewer we know that your gear is neverfully paid for, as there is always something that you have just ordered that you really need to add to your set-up. :p

I was out recently on a bucks night. We went to another nightclub and I ended up in a round of jager bombs with six people. These things tasted like **** so I only had one and was drinking dark ale stubbies after. Come my turn to buy a round I found out these were $10 each.

Cost me $56 for 5 jagermeitser and redbull drinks and one stubby.

Bloody Hell Those prices that some of you have quoted are absolutely ridiculous.I'm glad i'm an antisocial prick who has an aversion to pubs etc....
I was miffed at having to pay $7.50 ish for a Schooner/midi of Erdinger in hahndorf about 2 years ago.

DJR,
I just plugged your specs into promash.
Your SG must have been around 1.039.
Is this a normal SG? I don't brew anything below 1.055!
I usually use 5-6kg of base malt!

Worst, dunno I go to the pub so rarely that it all seems overpriced, I bought a pint of Redback before Pearl Jam last year at Young and Jackson in Melb seemed over priced but I don't know.

Bintang in the pool in Bali is always a good drink, $1.50 for a bottle, 700mL that was a long time ago.

GL -The 3 pubs visited were decent establishments, The Beast Without Balls made sure of that.
But I did accidentally stumble into one of those dens of eniquity that you are so familiar with, and the beer was actually cheaper!, if nitro-Kilkenny can be called beer.

1.045 - 82% efficiency :beerbang:

It's a "light" beer - my beers don't usually fall below 1048 OG :)

I go out occasionally and if the beer doesn't look any good then I drink red wine. I look at it this way when I do buy a few ales at a pub then I think of it as research for my hobby.

Also less than the taxi ride home, or worse still a lot less than the fine from officer Dibble when you blow over.
