At the weekend, not only did I miss Ashers brewday but also had the pleasure of paying probably the highest price for beer in a pub that I can remember.

Kalgoorlie Hotel - Becks $6 a middy

Exchange Hotel, Kal. - $10 a pint of LCPA

Palace Hotel, Kal. - $8.25 a stubby of LCPA

Can anyone better these rip offs or is Kalgoorlie the most expensive watering hole ( hole being the operative word ) in the country?

I gave a $10 note for a Corona in a then chic club called "Rouges" off Oxford Street in ... you know where it is! The bloke behind the bar put the lot in the till. When I asked after my change, he shrugged his shoulders. W@nker. That was well before the new millenium. But the skirt their was worth it :)

ten dollars for a corona? *****.

i don't get out much these days but i do definitely get the sulks over beer prices on occasion. It's even worse when you start thinking in terms of how many litres you could have brewed for the same price.

however, when it's good beer then I am generally happy to fork over a bit more, and get happier as the night goes on.

Well Incider, It might be best to specify which Oxford street you mean. I am sure both are rip offs, but the skirt contain 2 very different outcomes.

The dockyards in newcastle is $12 for a pint of lcpa

I sat on the beach with my father in Mazatln where a local Mexican boy delivered a bucket of Hecho in Mexico Corona's on ice with lime and salt for USD$2. the lot. They were the shorter Coronas (10oz?) but there were at least 10 bottles per bucket. I can't even remember how many runs for additional buckets he made that day. Suffice to say, we spent the equivalent to your GPB$10 for god knows how many iced buckets of proper Corona.

Oh wait. We weren't in a Pub, nor did we pay Outrageous Pub Prices.

Nevermind :p

$8.50 for a pot of Stella at the Botanical Hotel in Melbourne. That's $3 per 100mL of locally brewed swill. Barely any change from a $50 for a round of 5 beers...you get the idea

It's all OK HK no 'ginger beers' for me there! It was a uber cool club that had the odd visiting celeb / local pop star. It had taken me many visits getting turned away as I was not cool enough before I got in :(

In the end I nursed my Cerveza for an hour and went back home to the Steyne Hotel at Manly. :D No doubt I would have been knocking back TEDs or VBs...

$14 for a stubbie of Tiger in Singapore is probably the worst I have paid. I have paid more for single beers but they were good. I'm like Kai in that I don't mind paying for something good.

I can remember paying way too much for very ordinary beers in Sweden in the early 90's, but that is due to the huge taxes on alcohol in that country. On Sunday I was pretty annoyed at paying $5 for a middy at the JS Brewhouse on King Street Wharf. The beer was very good, but it still hurt.
Cheers

the opposite of topic but in Venezuela a couple of years back paid the equivalent of about 50 cents a stubbie for the local beer either "Polar" or "Regional" at the local 'disco' wasnt a bad drop either surprisingly

Did you check that the crown seals on those bottles were not tampered with?

There are other fluids that resemble Corona. You never know...

And while we're both off topic Barramundi, one of the students in my class is from Regional in Venezuela. I'll pass on your comments.

It's about $9 for a pint of LCPA at The Australian here in Sydney. JS pints at Kings St Wharf as Gerard alluded to are also in the $7 - 8 range.

If we're OT on the cheapest, then mine would have been in Las Vegas at The Luxor Casino. Just drop $1 in a 1c poker machine nearest the bar and play 1c hands. As soon as the hosties see you playing the machines they want you to stay there, so free drinks on the house. SWMBO was on the vodka, me on the Bud* so we made sure our $1 went a looong night way.

Cheers.

*Disclaimer: On the Bud was due to me not yet starting HB'ing, or even knowing what SNPA was.

Regional was the brand of beer ... one of them anyway the other main one was "polar"

$7 a for a pot of asahi @ Lounge on Swanston St Melb.

What i really hate is paying through the nose for a six pack...

$22 for a mixed six pack from red hill brewrey on the weekend. Granted the beer is top notch and it looks like it comes in gold plated packaging, but jesus the brew on premise and it cost me $22 for my last AG 23litre batch...

$24 for a stubbie of Coopers Pale Ale in Tokyo. But you kinda expect that in Tokyo.

Hey, HBW.C & Beerslayer? How much were we paying for shouts on the AHB pub crawl last year? I bet that would be close to a Sydney record. I remember getting about $5 change from a $50 for the three of us at one stage.

Berp.

Wash down your Kobe Beef and I'd say a square(ish) meal and no change from $100.

Probally not on par exactly, but I went to the Tap Inn in Kentown, Adelaide. Bloody 5 bucks for a schooner of Coopers Pale, to add insult to injury the trouble and strife paid $4.90 for a schooner of cider. These prices were during daylight hours. God knows what they charge when the yuppies hit the place Friday and Saturday evenings.

I thought I was being extravagant paying $US6 for schooners of SNPA at
San Francisco Airport. Seems thats nothing compared to some places in
Sydney.
