October Fed Square Microbrew Showcase "people's Choice"

The organisers of the Federation Square Microbrew Showcase have announced their "People's Choice" vote winners from the October tasting event. According to their email there were 24 breweries and contract beer companies in attendance and maximum capacity was reached by 6:30 on Wednesday and 6 pm on Thursday. I suspect that ticket prices might go up in the future... Only about 20% of attendees bothered to vote - with 80% probably just there to get a good buzz on. It certainly seemed that way from the other side of the tasting table!

Best Wheat Beer - Hargreaves Hill Hefeweizen
Best Lager - effen Lager
Best Pale Ale - tie between Hawthorn Brewing Co. pale and Boatrocker Alpha Queen
Best Dark Ale - White Rabbit
Best Stout - Bellarine Brewing Co. Mussel Stout
Best Belgian - tie between Bridge Road Biere de Garde and Prickly Moses Farmhouse Ale
Best Other/Specialty - 3 Ravens Dark Smoke Beer

Interesting to note that four of the winners are contract brews, with at least three being brewed at Southern Bay Brewery, so kudos to the boys in Geelong!
