Hello All,

My Brother-In-Law and I are looking into the Home Brew culture. Any tips for starting up in Canberra? Are there any clubs or organisation we can join? We are keen to get started but are novices. Hopeful to get into Kilkenny and Alcoholic Ginger Beer. Any assistance is appreciated.

Cheers,

Welcome to the site.

Have a browse through the different forums, the topics that are airlocked or pinned are full of great info. Then there is alot of reading by browsing topics in each forum. make sure you have selected all posts as it defaults to the last 30 days when browsing.

Also, using the search function will pull a heap of info up. Making ginger beer has a few pages of posts covering different recipes and the different kits available.

Make sure you discover your local homebrew shops, they are the place for good ingredients and top advice.

Join up the local club, being active is a big step in helping you brew the best beers using your available ingredients, skills and equipment.

That means Brew Your Own At Home in Kambah.

Good prices and Colin is a great bloke

I however have nothing good to say about a certain store located in Kaleen except that you'd be best off avoiding it unless an emegency arises and you need something asap

Go and see Col at BYOAH in Kambah - top bloke, very helpful and he'll fix you up with everything you need for your first brew. He may baffle you with science (he likes a chat) but hang around here long enough and you'll be sipping on a bloody nice Kilkenny in no time. Dont feel embarrased asking questions.
Cheers - have fun!
Steve

P.S. Col does regular drewing demos so go along to one of them too.

Have a look at the Canberra Brewers web site, come along to our meetings Col can tell you more about that, being a member of our club you get a 10% discount at his shop. We have a lot of outstanding brewers within our club and always ready to help.

One of our members is in the process of setting a micro up in Fyshwick should be producing in around 4 weeks so Canberra will have some nice beer around the traps.

Richard brews good beer at the Wig & Pen already.

But it will be good when Christoph's brewery is up and running.
