Planning on doing a Nelson Sauvin based lager, not having used this hop before but being struck by its unique contibution to a beer as far as commercial varieties go my question is, can you over do it by using to much, is there a safe ammount to stick to?

Mike

I could be a little biased here because I love the stuff! :beerbang: When I used it I ran around 80g through my hopback in a 42 litre batch. Tasted great and probably could have stood some more.

I find the aroma isn't overly in your face. It's more the hop flavour it produces. Very Kiwi Fruit/Grapey.

Had a bottle of Knappestein for the first time the other day and enjoyed the flavour in that too. Found it to be around the same level as my beer.

I reckon if you use similar amounts to an APA you should be right. :)

I can back up warren on this after sampling an ale he did with it. good stuff.

I'm pretty certain quite a few people have brewed Ross's Nelson Sauvin summer ale, which uses 90g, so that would seem a good amount as well.

I hope so because I'm planning a variation on it myself...

I did Ross's NSSA and it was beautiful, spot on for my hop head. If I was to do it again I would dry hop aswell.
Cheers
Steve

Can you ever have too much hops?!*

*purely speculative, though IMO the answer is no.

I say taht you can overdo it. I tried a brew at a tasting and my notes on aroma read "Skittles". Couldn't get past that smell..... not good at all.

Well along with some saaz plugs I ended up using 25gms for bittering, 15 gms at 15min left, and 20 gms at flame out with 20gms of B saaz, will perhaps do some dry hopping also, depending on how it comes along, was also my first no chill batch due to time restraints I turned off the NASA close to midnight and didn't want to piss off the neighbours any more (I live in an apartment block of 20 units)
