the big front burner (which is pretty crap to start with) on my crappy 1960's electric stove conked out half an hour in, so now i'm chugging away at 85C on the back burners, hopefully i'll be boiled down to my target volume by 10 tonight... :(

Nip out to bunnings for a small $20 camp stove?

I read about hops. Where is the best place to get them from?
chantele

Without getting at least a rolling boil, it's not going to be ideal, even if you do manage to drop the volume by letting it sit for 5 hours at 85C.
DMS, hop utalization and all those things will be issues without a decent boil.

I am sorry to ask this question but Chantele ... are you for real ??

been removed for some reason... did I miss something? I remember posting a link to a good article that briefly explains the whole thing.

Yes. They had some unmalted barley and wondered why OG was so low.

I think he might have been referring to the hops comment

if you can't get a rolling boil off your burner float an aluminium Take away tray in the wort, it'll decrease the surface area in the simmering wort and help you get a rolling boil. not a permanent solution but could help for tonight.
