when you put 100 deg. wort into it nothing will live through that anyway

Some scientific references to back-up your claim would be interesting to read, especially if they were practical and useful to the situation described by the OP.I think you'll find that although common belief is you need bleach; vinegar by itself will actually kill spores.
I vote throw the vessel. One infected brew and you'll be kicking yourself.
Not much point of gettin a new one if ya can't be stuffed keepin your cubes clean.
The man is obviously better at breeding mould than he is at brewing beer so perhaps he's barking up the wrong tree.
