Guys,

This topic has probably been covered, but i was wondering whether anyone has attempted to reduce a 19L keg to a 9-10L keg by cutting a section out the keg wall, and welding it back together?

The reason i ask is, normal kegs are much cheaper to buy than 9L kegs if you wanted to make a 9L keg from a larger one, and i have a friend who specialises in stainless pressure vessel welding who could possibly attempt to make one for me...

Has anyone tried this? or could i possibly be playing with fire?...

Yes has been discussed numerous times and it seems that it is more effort than it is worth.

If you are that keen for a party keg you can make your own out of a garden sprayer etc aswell.

Covered just the other day here

Domonsura explains why it is too much of a PITA.

Cheers guys, i didnt realise it was only recently covered.

I think i might just save up my clams and get a new one from Westbrew for 150...

Our local welder did at least one for himself. Can not find any more info on it as he dropped out of the brew club. Yes from what I hear doing a sanitary weld is a pain. I do not think I would cut a good keg, but would consider salvaging a damaged one. Nothing to loose at that point but a few bucks or some beers.

A good point. If the kegs stuffed anyway, and you know someone that can weld to that standard...why not? But I think theres way too much potential of stuffing it to sacrifice a good keg for it.
