I've been doing a bit of Water Additions 101 and getting to grips with Calcium Chloride, Calcium Sulphate and Magnesium Sulphate. I wonder if there is any possible application to brewing for Magnesium Chloride? I note from Wikipedia that it's used in Asian cuisine and in preparation of baby formula so not toxic in small doses.

I cant see why not... Never heard of anyone using it, but I can see a use. I'd like to add a little magnesium to my brewing water, but I don't like adding sulphates to lager beers... So a magnesium chloride would be just the ticket.

It would depend I guess on the solubility of the stuff and how well it stays dissolved in hot liquids, and what other reactions it. Might have.

I may look in the Asian store, could be a winner for me with say a 1/4 tsp added to the boil. Or not.... I'll wait and see if anyone has anything specific they know about this gear. It might be a really bad idea and i'm just not clever enough to see why.
