howd y brewers,

Would like to take the missus away camping in the next few months and looking for some ideas on where to go.

The criteria is as follows.

1. When I say camping I mean a caravan park with showers and toilets. Although I could rough it, she couldn't and would want showers toilets etc.
2. Preferably on the water either salt or fresh but a good spot to do some fishing and actually have a chance of catching something would be even better.
3. Some local attractions would be a bonus. We went to Lakes entrance last year and went to Bull Ant brewery a few times and Buchan caves, so some local micro brewery's or other things to do and see would be good.
4. Willing to travel over the border into NSW or SA

Thanks gents.

The last 8 years or so we stored a caravan up at Pambula Beach, twenty mins north of Eden and just down the road from the actual Pambula township. The caravan park is great, decent sized sites, good amenities like BBQ's, camp kitchen, games and lounges. Can get busy in the peak times but there are secluded sections of the park. Good fishing around, cheap oysters, decent restaurants. Not sure about micros as we sold the van last year so haven't been up there in close to two years but craft beer was in most of the bottlos.
We've since bought a little campervan we can store at home which allows us to take the kids away more regularly and are always looking for new places to go. Sounds like your wifes idea of camping is the same as mine so if you find somewhere she likes be sure to let us know.
Some of my other favourite glamping locations are Bright, Apollo Bay and the Grampians. If you head to SA, Robe is beautiful and not too far away.
Next on our list is probably Wilson's Prom as I haven't been there since a kid. Bemm River is another I've heard a lot of good things about but yet to have been. Damn, Truman, I can't afford to be thinking about a holiday at the moment!

Merimbula was on the list and I've been to Pambula many many years ago so that might be worth checking out.

I had a,so considered Robe as my brother goes there a lot. And Bemm river is another one I had heard of but forgot about so thanks for the suggestions Camo, will check them out.

No worries. The park in Pambula itself is a dive but the one down the road is right on the beach.

I agree about Robe.

Very nice spot, you can drive on Longbeach for something like 10 kilometres, with just a family car. If you want a more secluded beach, Nora Creina is only 15 minutes or so drive.

Caught two nice sized bream off that beach while sipping beers on the tailgate of the cruiser. Some of the bluest water around I reckon.

Robe sounds awesome. Having lived in Broome for 18 years I've driven on the beach plenty of times but the missus would love doing something like that.

I'm heading down to that part of the country to catch up with the folks for Christmas, I'll probably even go for a day trip to Robe while i'm there.

Well I booked the Discovery holiday park in Robe from the 29th to 4th Jan. Any suggestions on some good fishing spots and other things to see and do?

Also any pubs that might serve some decent craft beer either in Robe or not too far away?

I stayed at the Sea Vu park and while the views were spectacular the wind wasn't.
From the discovery park its about 30m onto longbeach were I had no troubles catching a couple of nice bream in the middle of the day on medium gear. I reckon it'd be great at night on a rising tide with a few HBs and a small fire, maybe some Moet if Swmbo needs to be included!
If you like crays try sweet talking the boat operators as the shops prices didn't reflect the location.
You'll love it mate. Have a good time.

SWMBO enjoys drinking my beer as well although prefers the dark beers like stouts etc and would enjoy sitting on the tailgate of my ute with a few beers watching the sunset and a rod in the water.

I like the crayfish idea too. Thanks for the tips.

Myrtleford up in the NE of Vic is good. Quieter than Bright or Beechworth and only 30mins from each. Spots for fishing and water skiing if that takes your fancy.
