Interesting that some of you are having luck with cold water - i have only ever used hot water and never had a problem.

However to my knowledge napisan etc requires hot water to be activated properly.

Theres 3 main facts with cleaning agents: Heat, Time & Concentration.

Hot water will remove the labels no problems. Just soak them in hot water and leave when it cools down till they float of. No need for any chemicals.

I think ANY bottle you get beer in is fine for re-capping. I've used crappy twist top VB and XXXX bottles since I started brewing in '07 without any breaking. They are pretty thin and crap but with a bench capper I've never had a problem.

If you have a bench capper you should have any problems at all.

If you are a cheapskate like me and only have a hammer capper be very careful. The only one I have had break is a LC stubbie the pints have been good so far. Cannot beat the Coopers longneck for a sturdy tough bottle though.

Coopers are the best. I use LC bottles and XXXX crown seals as well, but coopers are the best and most sturdy.

The LC bottles are good for "I don't want to drink a whole tallie" nights.

I believe in GST, it's the alcohol excise I have an issue with.

He he he.

Until double batches are do-able (equipment needs purchasing), I kind of don't want my fave batches to be drunk within a couple of weeks (which is quite do-able in tallies).

:icon_offtopic: You should try kegging, it will reduce the amount you drink because you can only have a glass if you want, not a whole bottle. ROFL. But then there is the element of well i can have one more because i don't need to finish the whole bottle; I can have 'just one' one with lunch, 'just one' before dinner, 'just one' with dinner... 'just one' just because I am thirtsty.

Edit: GST = Grand Scale Theft.

Off topic, maybe, sorta?
I had thought a pint in a nonic glass would come to where I have put the red arrow on this picture?

And this was after I slurped some of the froth. Well I guess the poms just don't like head?

Must be a southern pint glass. In the north of England the pint glasses are oversized to allow for head and have a line to designate one pint of fluid. Pint glasses styles

edit: Could by chance be an American Pint glass but unlikely it would spill after 470ml

The LC bottle says "The Imperial Pint Size 20 FL OZ - 568 ML".
The first picture in the link you posted showed a glass filled to the brim. Like I said, i don't think poms like head. Erm, make that southern poms don't like head!

When I worked over there the english could get really worked up about the head/ full measures
I knew a couple who would ask for their pints of fosters without head so they could drink an extra half mouthful.
Obviously the owner wanted me to serve beers with a solid inch of head so he could get more pints to the keg.

guys ... fix the whole problem and use Champers botles with resealable caps .. Pelican point (I think is the name) have plastic resealable caps and I have been using them for past 3 months with great success... but I am also a kegger .. I bottle 12 bottles per brew for emergencies and as give aways to family and friends ... Beer is the best gift....
