Little Black Flies?

I only just yesterday relized i had not dumped my spent grain on the compost heap but left it in a bucket inside the shed...(one of those things when you drink and brew)

Well looks like i'm now guilty of breeding a million of these things...

And when i got rid of the grain they came in the house looking for any fermentables... :huh:

Some good did come of it...

Turns out my 3 year old daughter was doing a little bit of Brewing herself.. as the the little flies led me to a 3 day old bowl of cornflakes hidden in her room that were more than ready to be racked to the secondary... :lol:

My taps and drip tray are under constant attack from these things and i dont know about you guys but after a heavy night on the Ales.. the last thing i think about is washing everything down..so by the time a get up the next morning/ afternoon.. the bastards have seriously moved in...

I thing i might have alook at making some of those fly traps and put one near every entrance to the bar and the brew room...as long as it catches them then it doesnt matter if it attracts more of them...

Dammit, i just brought in a 40Litre APA type yesterday to keg/rack today and found overnight 2 of these littles bastards have gotten in! :angry:

They are little brown ones. One was still flying around and one was dead on side of the fermentor above the beer tho. Will do a sg reading and taste test, hoping it will not be vinegar

I had that happen once to a barleywine. Not only did they get in, they laid maggots at the high-kraussen line. I didn't notice until I kegged it.

They didn't seem to contribute any flavour I could detect
