G'day Brewers,
I purchased a bottle of licorice exctract online to add to my stouts and Baltic Porter but there isn't any storage info on the bottle.
In the fridge or in the cupboard, or it doesn't really matter?
Cheers.

Would store in the fridge after opening if unsure Boagsy, would appreciate a link to the online source.

No Worries.

From one of the sponsors.

I've since noticed that another sponsor, CB, has licorice root that's a bit cheaper, perhaps this may have been a better option.
I reckon the local health food shop would have this or both, I just thought I'de chuck some in with an order to try it out since I have a Baltic Porter recipe planned.

Thanks for that, sure lots of brewers will be happy to know where to get it.

I'd go easy on it if it's the first time you've used it. It can get quite sticky if over used. I have only used it twice and from memory 10ml in 23 litres was over the top for me (and I do like licorice). Just my 2c anyway :)

When in your method did u put it into your brew?

dump into fermentor anytime. not in boil.

G'day,

Going to be putting down a 12L batch of stout tomorrow. Will be utilising licorice extract to give a nice head. Would 5mL be an appropriate amount? Trying to get the head benefits rather than an overpowering licorice element. Hb79, I take it 10mL in 23L made it too licorice'y?

Cheers,

Adam.

I was going to use some licorice extract in my toucan stout but forgot to add it before closing the lid on the fermenter. When would be the best time to add it. Add it now or wait til I keg it? Should it be boiled to "sanitize" it or just chuck it straight in?
