I bought a 4-pack of this tonight, not the first time I have tried it but I was keen to revisit it. The first bottle was everything I remembered on the hops, so fresh and vibrant and unique. However, reaching the end of the third I am starting to struggle with it a little. It's getting a little sweet and there's a bit of a hole in the middle.

Obviously it's not priced as a session beer, but I was wondering if anyone else out there has tried to sit on it for the night, or at the least how people have found working through a 4-pack?

Keen for your thoughts

Kai

nah i found it only good for 1 or 2. after that, the malt doesn't balance evenly with the sauvin hops. the result (at least in my opinion) was a little too home-brewish, verging on a K&K twang after beer # 2.

i won't be getting it again in a hurry.

Went through a 4-pack quite easily at a quiz night.

The first 1 was out-of-the-fridge cold, and the rest were in an inadequate cooler bag that didn't do it's job that well. Was a bit sweet but definitely not cloying. The last one probably went down the easiest, most likely because I was quite tipsy.

I bought a 4 pack some time ago to sample taste the sauvign hop.

I tried one of them after work and was pleasantly surprised at the unique taste from the hop.
A few nights later after work I drank the other three.
By the third one I found no real enjoyment and I guess Kai's quote
"It's getting a little sweet and there's a bit of a hole in the middle" sums it up nicely.

Would I buy it again?? I dont think so.

hmmm, interesting. i've only had a stubbie every now and again.
shame it's not on tap so i can do the same experiment with a few pints.

I find it does get a little sweet after a couple. It may just be my perception but it tastes like the bitterness level has been reduced since it was first released.

I find its the same with LC Bright ale,and JS golden.OK as a refreshing change/taster,but not suitable for a session. They are all rather sweet and girly once you get past the novelty of fruit tingle hops.

I'm not sure there are many bottled beers I could go a session on at all. I find them nearly all over carbonated for my liking, producing a beer which is just a shadow of the draft version. I want to emphasise here, I'm talking session beers, not big beers, which can taste great out the bottle.
Guess it's my pommie heritage, but I can't hack fizzy beer.

cheers Ross

That's funny, because I recently "persuaded" a photographer mate of mine to start brewing with a couple of my samples (let the hysterical laughter commence!). He's a pommie too, and his criticism was that my beers were too carbonated for his palate. I thought they might have been a little flat because they were bottled straight from the tap. He also thought his first brew was overcarbonated and he used the carbonation drops (following the instructions on the packet (2 drops for tallie)).

yeah i did that too.. but i think i didnt let it ferment enough which left residual sugars in the brew which cause it to over carbonate. Left the second one for longer and the carbonation is nice

I couldn't agree more - although I can stay on the JS Golden for much longer than the LCBA without getting bored...

i tried another one the other night and it seemed different. smelled like more late NS to the point where it was a bit over the top. has anyone noticed a slight change?

I have one left from a case my wife bought me, so maybe I'll drink it tonight... I found I could easily have a session on it, but at 5.6% it's a rather short session for me anyway.
