How come in most gravity keggle set ups, they draw from the side and not the bottom?

usually theres a burner under there, also its easier to access on the side....in the kettle it keeps the trub cone in the middle and you can draw clear wort from the outside

having the valve at the side gives versatility to heat the vessel both ways (gas and electric).

also, with kettles (boiler), you want to draw off from the side to leave as much debris in the middle of the keggle.

Some fair points there, I'm playing with my HLT at the mo', just fitted a sight gauge and when calibrating it, I need to put about 15L before it registers..

I'm using a KK element, so burner issues(well not literatly!)

It just got me thinking as to why all the bussiness isn't on the bottom..
