Here I am with my new super fast wizzbang pc and broadband internet connection, and I seem to get more time outs than I ever have, even with dial up.
Is there just too much traffic clogging it up or is it another conspiracy against me.
Anyone else having problems lately, I am with iinet.

It takes a long time to get to WA, you know.

Was slow here the last few days...

Although the torrents seemed Ok, but everything else was crap

Vlad,

As someone who lived in Pert at one stage, we know that all good things that come out of the East do a U-turn at the Nullarbor.

Same with fast internet speeds.

When you are on a high bandwidth connection it's always possible the server side could be holding you up. More people are on the 'net now, with faster connections, which greatly increases traffic through webservers.

I think that you are just getting a bit old, impatient and generally grumpy Ian.

Does iinet have a file mirror / ftp site with test files of say 1mb, 10mb & 100mb ? try dl'ing these to work out if the speed problem is between your modem & the isp. With adsl2, the isp sometimes has different profiles ie fast but unreliable, medium, slow but very reliable. Depending on your modem & how its setup, might need to change some tcp settings. dl SG TCP Optimizer from http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php and see if it makes any suggestions. At worst ring the helpdesk and ask for suggestions / help.

cheers

You mean like this? There's a hosted mirror for each telco, and iiNet's on there with tests for 70 KB, 600 KB, 3 MB, 9 MB, and 15 MB.

Good luck.

you should write a stern letter to the internet, in green biro, give them a bollocking.
