During the 60s my father held the license for the Plaza-later to become the Menzies Hotels-Wynyard station. He was required to record Alcohol strength tests by the Department weights and measures. He had a Hydrometer kit plus another kit which was certified by the department as being true/correct. The Hydrometer kit comes in a very fine timber box [with dept. registration sticker] the equipment is brass. The other kit [not sure how to describe] consists of a number of thermometers [?] as well as a stainless steel unit with burner???
I want to sell both but have no idea of value and where best to advertise these. Any suggestions? pictures available.

Got any pictures? Might assist in people helping you by seeing the condition of the item and what it looks like.

I'm sure you could find someone interested here. Other options might be ProBrewer.com or microbrewing.com.au. Without photos it sounds like it may have more interest as a brewing "antique", but I'd guess it will be very interesting for the right person. If it's functional for daily use you might just find a professional brewer who would be interested, particularly if they're old school. Or hipster ;)

Short story:
The other kit with the burner is also used to measure abv.

Long story:
A mate of mine has one of these burner temperature setups overseas, I first saw it in his mini lab he has at his wine cellars and microbrewery. He's also the commissioner for the local wine club and when they run competitions - the wines need to fall into particular categories including sulfur content and abv. I asked him how it works and he explained they measure abv. with it by taking it slowly to its boiling point, whatever temperature that is reflects its abv. I'm sure it's more involved than that and some of the process may have been lost in translation but that's basis of it.

Edit:
Just remembered it's called a 'Ebulliometer'
