I was under 5 living with my Gran and folks down in Mentone. On a hot day my Dad would crack a beer.
The granny would get a shandy and I would get a watered down dash in a Vegemite jar that you could use as a glass.
The olds still have the Vegemite jar glasses somewhere.
Might have to get one for the what's in the glass thread.

My old man gave me a can of cold Fosters after a day at the beach when I was about 9. Sat around the barby, drank 1/2 of it and thought it was as bitter as buggery (but I was gonna finish it godammit). Got half pissed and gave it back though.

I've been chasing that taste ever since and can't quite get it....bit like heroin really ;) .

Maybe another thread: How old were you when you fist got standing up-falling down pissed?

Was about 7 but it probably wasnt until 12-13 that I was putting away a few beers and plastered with the folkes on a weekly basis though.

Like Luke the (really) oldies used to have a Shandy at Xmas time. When you reached 10 it was like a rite of passage to be finally allowed to have your own beer and lemonade (not much beer though). As time went on the lemonade became less prominent and the beer took over. Been chasing the dragon ever since.

No shame in cider, Airgead. Just in that fake, yellow stuff Strongbow etc label as cider. A real cider is delicious. :super:

Edit: Oops, sorry to all Strongbow drinkers who may be offended by this comment.

I'm afraid it was indeed the aforementioned strongbow...

Mind you, the ciders I make now for the missus are another thing altogether.

Cheers
Dave

Some nice stories going around...

My first one was probably when I was little [like 2 to 4], having a sip whilst on Dads knee. My first real bottle of beer that I can remember was at the coast house with some cousins [age 15?] at Christmas time. Think it was Hahn...and I didn't go too much on it. Remember thinking it was pretty cool though, haha.

My first case of beer that I drank myself was when I was 18. A case of Tooheys New 250mls. Started off hating them, ended up draining them as I sat in my mini-pool on the dorm lawn reading Zoo Weekly in my Hawian boxers and Mexican hat. Oh the glory! Damn, that was a good summer...

Cheers and beers - boingk

1 day old and it tasted strangely of breast?

Warren -

We have come to expect that type of behaviour from u Warren

Really?

Their website doesn't mention that. Here or

Check the ingredients next time you're in a bottlo, you'll find its made from mostly pear juice.

Adam

Edit: Funny that SB Original is clearly stated as "apple cider" where the Dry and Sweet are labelled to be "fruity", maybe the Original is actually (mostly) cider.

now we're OT, that's why Mercury cider tastes slightly better than Strongies IMO, i hear Mercury doesn't use pear juice.

I think my first was back when Reschs KB still came in the dimpled cans. I look back with nostalgia on them, although it probably tasted like complete $%^!

Blackbock - that reminds me of something educational I once heard!

You know how certain beer bottles used to be dimpled or patterned too? Well, seems the beloved Aussie Xmas Beetle was being attracted to these dimples reflecting the light instead of the carapace of a female beetle! I think the Greenies kicked up a stick about it and it was part of the reason it got changed.

Imagine...a bunch of beetles flying around a huge, sexy beer bottle :D

13-14 years of age and I recall it was a Tuborg in a large can

I remember being 5 or 6 and would always fetch the old man a beer.
He would crack that can of KB and give me a sip always.

I had a number of sips of beer when I was little, but I think my first whole glass of beer would have been when I was 10 at my nana's house. Mum must have told her I was unwell or something because my nan decided to give me a "tonic" with dinner when I went to her place after school. The tonic was a tall glass of Guiness with a raw egg and a couple spoons of sugar. By the end of dinner I was swaying in my seat. Geez I miss my nana.

I thought that I'd point my son in the right direction. His first taste of beer was a small drop of Leffe Bruin.

considering one of my earliest memories drinking beer.... I'm guessing rather young... certainly as soon as I was old enough to have enough dexterity/strength to open a stubbie with a bottle opener :D

Used to live on cattle properties as a young lad... used to be my job to fetch beers from the house beer fridge, open them and then run them back to the grain shed (or wherever within a few 100 metres). Basically by the time they got back to my father, they were froth free and quite underweight :)

found another :p

ahhhhh my path was set wasnt it :chug:
