How long before potential bottle bombs can be declared 'safe'?

1. Get down low, Use the lid of the esky like a shield,
2. open esky carefully
3. chuck the neighbours cat in
4.close lid quickly
5. listen
 
I had a plastic bottle go in the middle of the night........beer everywhere
I reckon the mrs was still in a stupor as she helped me clean it up at 2am, no questions asked...
 
whilst on this topic: does the amount of dead space at the top of the bottle make a difference to safety? also, if a beer is still lightly fizzy in the bottling bucket, is it dangerous to bottle it?

only bottle (ever) after expected FG has neen reached and you are certain it is finished.. anything less is asking for trouble
