Howdy all,

pretty simple question for anyone that knows - I'm formulating my first AG recipe atm, and just working out hop additions. Given that I want to use East Kent Goldings and Fuggles for my flavour/aroma (doing an IPA), I'm restricted to plugs. The question is:

How easy is it to cut a plug in half? Not having physically seen hops in this format, I'm not sure what the consistency would be like, i.e. hard or soft?

I am wanting to do some 7.5g additions, so if I can cut one of those little suckers right in half, that would do the trick!

Cheers.

Julez,

Plugs are easy enough to break up or cut up into what ever you want. They're pretty easy to work with.

Cheers,

Schooey

Don't try and cut them in half as if slicing a cake, they easily split in layers as they are squeezed together. Think of a tall column of hop flowers that has been squashed down to a fraction of its original size.

They are easier to break apart when at room temperature too, so give them a few minutes after taking them out of the freezer. But yeah, pretty easy to tear apart.

Thanks ausdb and T.D. - so if I let them defrost for a bit then cut them across-ways instead of top-bottom I should be right.

Cheers :)
