I'm a bit confused.

I am a big fan of Witbier, Hoegaarden in particular.

I note that the style is specific in its cloudyness, due to excess protiens.

In fact the Hoegaarden bottle states that it is Unfiltered and Cloudy.

Imagine my surprise when I went to a little bottleshop recently, and bought some very agreeably priced Hoegaarden ($12 for a 4 pack). When I got it home, I noted that the beer was clear, unlike the others that I had in my fridge.

Is it possible that these are a Parrallel import product, and that they aren't genuine Hoegaarden?

maybe they are old stock and everything had settled to the bottom of the bottles.

If you read the back of the bottle it should have pouring instructions like pour 2 thirds then swirl the rest in the bottle to get the yeast has settled to the bottom of the bottle back into suspension, then pour the rest into the glass.

Nothing to worry about.

Almost every beer will settle out, given sufficient time, barring any definitive faults in the beer.
All my bottles of Hefeweizen end up looking like Kristalweizens towards the end of consuming the batch.

The advice given by the previous posters seems good to me.

Thanks guys,

Seems I must have only had fresh ones up until now.

I am finding it very hard at the moment to find places that have a good supply of Hoegaarden. My local 1st Choice advertise it, but hardly have any in, and I went to a Dan Murphy's the other day, and got the last slab in the store.

Hopefully my Witbier will come up good, and I won't have to buy it any more.

Essee, I also saw the slabs in Dan's yesterday. $48 for a carton.
Thought it might be out of date - nope, Feb 2012, though it might be BUL, Nope, imported.

It tastes sooo good.
